Excellent 80s comics - Interesting Character
This is one of the better comics from the 1980s that I did not read at the time. Slaine is an interesting and unique sword and sorcery comic character based upon Celtic myths. These are the first appearances of the character from the legendary weekly UK comic 2000 AD. The artwork is well done throughout the book, but Mike McMahon's artwork is especially good. It's a wilder, looser style than some of his Judge Dredd work and almost has a wood cut print look in black and white. The scenes with the Sky Chariot are really beautiful. The comic also has some humor usually tied to Slaine's sidekick Ukko. It's an interesting comic world writer/co-creator Pat Mills has created in Slaine. I'd say fans of the old 70s Marvel Conan comics and fans of sword and sorcerer fantasy novels would find things to like about Slaine and this collection.

The story is great, unfortunately (as is an issue with many graphic novels on Kindle) the text and frames are a bit difficult to read.

2000AD
Just as I remember when I read these stories as a kid along with Judge Dredd, ABC warriors and all the other 2000AD comic characters

Five Stars
Very Conan-esque, with a bit more grounding in the Celtic mythos.

terrible printing for such historic art
Got this in the mail and was immediately dissapointed. Terrible erratic printing, especially on the McMahon art. This is some of the best art to come out of 2000ad's golden period, I would have hoped more care and attention would have been applied to this printing.

The story is terrible
After seeing a lot of slaine art I was eager to get this, but the art is poor and the story line is dumb. I don't recommend

Not good on a tablet
Graphic novels do not read well on a kindle. The graphic novel itself deserves four or five stars. This review is of the kindle edition.

How it all began
Slaine was one of my gateway characters into comics, (the other being Nemesis, also by Pat Mills), and this is where it all beganThere's a great foreword by Pat Mills, explaining and giving a lot of credit to the artists and their very different styles. The stories are great, there is an undeniable Conan influence, but with more humour than Robert E Howard's work.It has certainly got.me hungry to get more books about The Warped One
