Wonderful Houses Around the World Paperback – December 28, 2004

This is an amazing book. I am very thrilled and pleased with it. Not only is it beautiful pictures of homes from around the world there are 2 page layout colored drawings of the inside with description of how the people live , sleep, eat, play, and study.I never knew that in a part of China 300 people live in a round "apartment building". All the kitchens are on one level and bedrooms on another. Fascinating! It's exciting to learn new things as an adult and to learn something from a child's book makes the learning even more so.It is an excellent book I highly recommend. Every library and perhaps every home should have a copy of this wonderful book.I am so glad I found this while looking here on Amazon for " houses" in children books.It will be extremely exciting to read and go through this book with my dds ages 5.5 and 4.

The book is one part David mcCaulay, one part Richard Scarry, though of domestic scenes around the world. The clear, detailed, and playful illustrations show a house (opened up to reveal interior) and yard and the daily activity happening within the space. It's so fun for my daughter to look for the children in the pictures and count all the other people. I appreciate the glimpses into the very different ordinary lives from around the world. my partner enjoys seeing the construction of the different houses.

We love this book. Have come back to many times (this was a second purchase for a cousin). The children love working out who might sleep where, and imagining life in very different environments/countries.

Fascinating houses and learned so much about other cultures.

I was impressed and delighted by this book! I bought it for our little boy, and he couldn't put it down ... The photographs are amazing, and the information provided in the book is priceless - for children and adults alike... This excellent book will be a wonderful addition to any library! Thank you!!!

Kids are fascinated! They love learning about these interesting houses around the world, and especially seeing the detailed diagrams. Wonderful nonfiction addition to a classroom library.

I love this book. In America we live in such a bubble, it's eye opening to see how the rest of the world lives.

Beautiful book

I love this book. Great photos and also really fantastic illustrations which allow kids to imagine what it is like to live in these various houses. I also think the focus on homes around the work helps kids really understand more about the various cultures than factual info, etc. I bought it for my 4 year old but, though she was interested, I would recommend for a five year old and up. My adult friends said they even wanted the book for themselves so I think it is pretty timeless.

Very interesting idea and the book uses some very detailed drawings to show the insides of the houses. I bought it specifically to look at one type of house I was researching (Hakka houses in China) but the others are all fun too and I imagine it would be fascinating for kids.

Very insightful for my 5 year old to give her perspective on her own way of life, as well as an insight into the worldGood for finding out about houses/building, culture, empathy, and imagination

Really intersting book. The school children found it so interesting they couldn't put the book down. Really useful as it is not hardback.
