so far so good on a 1996 ford explorer
Ok 1st you have to cut out the old plastic thats around the pump. 2nd it looks like the unit should go on the smaller hose but in fact it goes on the larger stainless hose. once you cut the plastic out you will see that both hoses are connected together.installed by dropping tank not to bad, installing unit was pretty easy also. It started within 30 seconds without being started in several years and with 300,000 miles on it and purs like a kitten.

Works in a 1997 Land Rover Discovery, but be aware -
This is an excellent fit in the plastic "cage" which contains the fuel pump and houses the fuel level sender unit in the fuel tank of the Discovery Series 1, which in our case has the advanced EVAP system. However, be aware that the cage has to be dismantled and the output fuel feed tube has to be properly attached to the new pump. The fuel reservoir on the bottom of the "cage" has to be removed, and careful note should be made of how all the rubber mounts fit to locate the pump. Make sure the correct (nearly identical to the original) fuel filter is securely fitted and is not "pinched". This pump unit appears exactly the same as the original, including the electrical connection.Vehicle fired up immediately on demand after installation and has run fine ever since over several hundred miles - so far, so good. (Knocking on wood here!)Just know that this is not a "drop in" replacement - a little work is involved but a reasonably competent mechanic should have no problem and the cost saving is quite significant compared to buying the entire assembly.

Worked perfect for 3 days!
Installed and started right up. Put about a hundred miles, and then it quit, 45 miles from home, had to be towed to nearest garage, thankfully mechanic was an expert on Ford. His recommendation was to Always replace with a Ford OEM pump. So after all my work, I had to have it replaced again!!! $$$

It Works!
The major automotive stores do not have the correct fuel pump in thier system for my '99 Explorer (4.0 SOHC). They don't show the correct pump for any engine option. This is half the price and comes with more accessories to make your job complete. It is a direct, drop-in replacement. With a few turns of the key, it fired right up!

Have to splice wires for connector to fit new pump
It would have been nice if this pump had the actual connector on it that was on my original fuel pump. It doesn't. Now I have to cut and splice the wires to change the connector to the type on the new pump. The connector, with wires, was included, but no butt splice connectors or directions of any kind are included.
