SirdarCountry Classic DK Double Knitting, Oat Beige (851), 50g

4 stars because these balls are much shorter lengths than other Sirdar yarns including Sirdar Snuggly so do check metres needed for any garment you are knitting so you order enough. The yarn comes in a range of lovely colours, the high wool content makes it a joy to work with and I found the cable work I did had excellent definition.

I am a beginner crocheter and was looking for cheaper wool to practice with. These are fine enough, but the wool is very stringy and unravels when trying to work with it, so it is a no from me at this point. I am sure that more experienced crocheters will find this wool more manageable!

The colour is lovely and as expected but , I’m sorry to say, this yarn is so scratchy with no ease. I tried to preservere but it feels awful. I tried a bamboo, then a plastic and then a metal hook to try to get the yarn moving - to no avail ! It also splits a lot ! I wouldn’t recommend this !

I knitted it up as the above pattern ,not the recommended yarn but it worked my. Nice and soft to work with and warm to wear.

These are very small balls, so was a bit disappointed with the amount and I had to buy more 3 and half balls just to make a hat, which makes it a bit expensive too. However, the wool knits up really nicely and it is very soft and warm with the high wool content - and despite the high wool content, it is still very soft and light and handles well. Generally, although it was a more expensive than I expected, it produced something really nice.
