Discovering Albanian I Audio Supplement: To Accompany Discovering Albanian I Textbook Audio CD – CD, September 1, 2011

I recently returned from a trip to Albania. It was a beautiful country, with some of the kindest and most welcoming people I've ever met. My only regret was that I wasn't able to communicate better with the people I met. I had tried several apps and YouTube videos before I left for Albania, but these left me with a handful of phrases and vocabulary words, but very little understanding of the grammar or how to actually express myself. I wish I had found this textbook sooner!I have been using it in conjunction with the Memrise Discovering Albanian deck, and I couldn't be happier. I am working through the textbook on my own, and the material is explained clearly and thoroughly enough that I am able to grasp the grammar explanations, even without a teacher. I would recommend purchasing this textbook and using it along with the Memrise deck if you are looking for a true understanding of Albanian. Pimsleur's Albanian course is a nice quick guide to conversation that helps cement some of the phrases and pronunciation.My only complaint was that my copy arrived damaged. It looks like it was dropped on two of the corners and had some minor wrinkling on some of the pages. I like the content of the book so much that I couldn't bring myself to rate it with less than 5 stars, despite it arriving damaged.

Just finished both books.Great resources.I did not buy the tapes as I can already get buy.If you are a begginner and serious I would recommend them but I think they are over- priced.But all help matters.

I speak Albanian but not what you would necessarily consider it in its formal sense. This book is provides a detailed lesson plan and correctly goes about in explaining and the words used to speak proper Albanian. Also, it takes into consideration both the Gheg and Tosk dialects when teaching whereas other books focus on one. It is refreshing and the authors delivered the material in an understandable manner.

Being self-taught with this text book and workbook is challenging but do-able. Definitely helpful to have an Albanian speaker go over material with me. Well-written, just wish it linked to a website with some audio lessons. I recommend the 2 books together as well as youtube lessons by Elson.

Packed with information...this is a college-level textbook, but the text is written clearly enough that I can use it in independent study. This book is for the student who wants to acquire a real grasp of the language, and has the time to commit to it, more so than for a traveler who wants a quick vocabulary overview and some helpful phrases.

This is a very clear and easy to understand introduction to Albanian language. Studying on my own was no problem with this textbook. I hope they come out with an intermediate level textbook and audio CD.

I wanted to begin learning Albanian, and this is the perfect start. I would definitely recommend this book for beginners. I would also recommend buying the audio because it will help you learn the pronunciation. Since there arent any american universities with an albanian language class, it doesnt leave many options for me to learn. Thankfully, i found the perfect textbook to learn the basics.

Good for learning Albanian

I find this book to be invaluable for me as a beginner. It has all the grammar I want as well as vocabulary. It also goes further and lets me know with some pronunciation and what I will hear in different places and different dialects. I am extremely happy I bought it.

A very well written and researched manual. It goes well with ‘Colloquial Albanian’, by the same authors. I am still hesitant speaking, but have managed some communication with a Yugoslav from Kosovo (I use Yugoslav intentionally). He was delighted.

Ich finde das Buch gut aufbreitet. Mir gefällt, dass es viele Texte gibt, man auf der Website der University auch günstig die MP3 Files kaufen kann und in der App Memrise alle Vokabeln kostenlos nach Kapiteln hinterlegt sind.Grammatik wird gut und sehr ausführlich erklärt, manchmal verwirren die vielen Wiederholungen.Leider sind einige Fehler in den Lösungen zu finden und die Übungen sind mir persönlich oft zu wenig, sodass ich mir noch das Workbook besorgt habe (auch hier sind viele Fehler im Lösungsschlüssel).Da es kostenlose MP3 Files dazu gibt und die Texte aktueller und moderner sind, würde ich inzwischen eher das "Colloquial Albanian" Buch von Linda Meniku empfehlen. Beide Bücher zu haben, ergibt aber wenig Sinn.
