Product Description Parenthood is the hilarious card game where you sabotage the neighbor kids with life's everyday issues so your own kids can graduate and get outta your house! A light, social game with a "take that" mechanic and a bit of luck, Parenthood draws out the players' natural story-telling talents--and their attitudes--in equal measure. Whether you're looking for a clean and family-friendly addition to game night, or you and your group bring a rude and raunchy sense of humor to the table, Parenthood is a good fit for you. From the Manufacturer Great for clean family fun or raunchy party crowd. Nothing about the game's theme or artwork is inherently "dirty." Everything is clean and "family-friendly," and the game can be played in that spirit with young children. At the same time, players bring their sense of humor to the table with them, and a different crowd brings a different dynamic. Your kids might accidentally learn a life lesson about parenting... while you and your friends will have your own hilarious narratives to add color. Full color and hand-drawn "retro" artwork on every card. This is our very first published design, and it's becoming a bit of a collector's item, especially once it goes out of print. This is a game ultimately designed by a family, for play by families. Every illustration is unique and hand-drawn by the creators. We want to have and to share the rich and surprisingly deep experiences found in tabletop gaming and in geek culture, and we want to continue to expand that universe, without losing sight of the traditional models that have made it possible. About the Startup Describe your product in 3 words. Cynical Card Game How did you come up with the idea for this product? I first conceived this game on a camping trip with some friends and when our first son was just a baby. We had been playing lots of Catan and Milles Bornes that weekend, and after a given session of the latter, I was struck by three thoughts: (1) there needs to be more lightweight, social interaction games like this (Milles Bornes) that still have a bit of strategic thinking in them (what I would later come know are called, in the hobby, “gateway games”). (2) A game like this should have a theme that is universally relatable, and (3) I hate how in Milles Bornes, once you get stuck, that could literally be the end of the game for you, and you just sit there and watch everyone else play. The answer to these three thoughts ended up being Parenthood, a social, gateway game with a theme that is universally relatable, and with a “take that” mechanic like Milles Bornes, but with the ability to have multiple kids so you can still be engaged in the game even when one of your kids is stuck. We expanded quite a bit on the “hazard/repair” dynamics, adding a wider range of combinations, but this is how the game was born. What makes your product special? The social aspect is really what makes the game so enjoyable. Players inevitably give names to their imaginary in-game children, and they will create all sorts of ridiculous narratives to describe the somewhat abstract events taking place in the game. There also seems to be something sinister (and deeply satisfying) about intentionally sabotaging other family's children! Perhaps this is some sort of therapy that all parents need... The game has been awesome for all ages, and we have so many memorable stories from playing it already. In one game, our friends' seven-year-old daughter said in exasperation, "man having kids is hard!" and we laughed at the miniature life-lesson. In an entirely different gaming session (more an adult-party atmosphere) some family and friends threw all strategy (and some of the rules) out the window and enjoyed the game with wine, from evening until about 3 in the morning, some of the players telling stories of the thirteen kids they had had over the weekend. The game is very social, and the mechanics set up easy puns and opportunities for the players to ad-lib narratives. What has been the best part of your startup experience? It's been the feeling that "the little guy" can actually start to feel successful and significant in a very competitive marketplace, and that there are so many other people out there with their own great ideas and experiences. The internet and social media and various startup platforms have really given these people access to each other, and a true and very altruistic community is evolving. It's wonderful.

you will have a lot of fun playing this
My family and I have been playing board games for many years... usually the standards, Monopoly, Life, etc. This game firmly fits into the family game category in that it really is for all ages. Whether you have a child who is just learning to read, or you're a weathered father (or granddad), if you are a member of a family, you will have a lot of fun playing this. Although it takes a very light-hearted look at the pitfalls and joys of raising kids (from the parent's perspective, of course), more than once you will find yourself saying, "OMG! That's so true!" Hats off to the creators for combining the ups and downs of family life with family game night.
