Terrific quality for the price!
Let me preface this review by saying this is my first automatic watch. I have a Citizen Eco Drive, but that's not automatic. With that out of the way, for the price of this watch, I am blown away. I knew nothing about this brand, but I took a chance on it because I absolutely love how this watch looks. Everything seems to be made of quality materials and the detail on the dial is gorgeous. I couldn't be happier with this purchase, especially for the price! My only minor gripe with this watch is that the band has a deployment clasp. I would prefer just a regular one, but I would imagine this will prolong the life of the band by a fair amount. The dial is a bit difficult to read in low light as well. Overall, phenomenal watch for the money you're paying. Five stars from me!Extra bonus: seller was very quick to ship as well! I thought it was going to take me a while to receive this due to being a third party seller, but they shipped it out I believe the morning after I ordered it!

Beautiful Automatic Watch
The Lucien Piccard Babylon self winding watch is a real work of art, the pictures do not fully capture the attention to detail that went into this timepiece. I took a few pics myself to try to better capture the high level of craftsmanship in this watch. Not having a quality camera myself, I used a magnifying lens to boost image clarity.... the detail is now more readily apparent. The Babylon Automatic is a kinetic energy type watch.... that utilizes a pendulum that swings/rotates in circles in response to body movement, the moving pendulum is what generates an electric charge which powers the movements of the watch.Consequently, this is a watch made for wearing.... literally, because if you don't wear it, it will stop keeping time.So the Automatic/kinetic watch is something of a boon & a bane as well.... on one hand, it is nice not to have to wind or deal with batteries.... on the other, unless worn religiously, this watch will invariably lose proper time.... which requires resetting the time before using it, almost every time.Which really is not that big of a deal, it is easy to do & only takes a second or three... you just have to remember to do it.As you can see in the photos, the backside of the watch is "see through" ... allowing you to view the mechanisms of the pendulum generator at work, pretty darn neat. The watch sports a black leather strap with a deployment clasp, the clasp takes getting used to, but I like them.... as they are about the most secure type of clasps made.... there is no way you are going to lose this when swimming.Yes... the Babylon is rated to WR5ATM - water resistant to 5 atmospheres, which is about 165 ft. so it can definitely go into the water with you without a second thought. On the face of the watch it has luminous hour & minute hands, a moon phase indicator as well as an "open heart" .... that provides a look at what appears to be a flywheel in motion. The Lucien Piccard Babylon is a unique classic/casual timepiece, that compliments my watch collection well & is a real pleasure to wear... I believe it to rank between 4 -5 stars ... this was a hard call really, but it loses a star for me because of the need to reset the time after periods of non-use.

Lovely but lacking functionality for old eyes
Beautiful watch, but difficult for my 76yo eyes to read due to lack of contrast between hands and face.

Gorgeous retro-looking watch with nice engineering
This is a man's watch. The watch face is big and masculine looking. But I got this for me. I like the chunky look of men's watches on my wrist. It is a very handsome, beautifully architected piece of equipment. The face has a silvery/gold sheen with roman numerals for the time. It also has a visible open-heart window at the 6 o'clock position as well as a 24-hour subdial "window" that visually shows the sun (day) or stars (night) at the 12 o'clock. In the back it has a "skeleton case" that allows you to see the movement. The casing is stainless steel and the band is leather with a crocodile-like finish. The buckle of the watch is where I had a bit of a struggle. I've never used a deployment buckle before. My first issue was I wasn't pulling hard enough to actually open it -- I was a littler nervous I didn't want to inadvertently break it. And then came the re-buckling. Took a bit of practice but I am used to it now.I get a lot of compliments on this watch and it is now one of my basic pieces of jewelry.

Nostalgic timepiece
When I was a child, my grandfather had a solid gold pocket watch. It was gorgeous in a thick gold case. My father had an expensive self-winding Swiss watch, thin as a quarter. Then along came LEDs and LCDs and quartz movement watches, cheap, highly accurate and about as attractive as a six pack of beer. Finally along came smart phones and a new generation began to rely on a time piece which was kept in pocket or purse.Lucien Piccard, one of the great names in classic Swiss watches (although this is a Japanese watch), has sought to reverse the trend. It has produced a quartz movement timepiece evocative of the classic wrist and pocket watches on yore. It has a twenty jewel quartz movement, visible from windows behind the face and on the back. A moon phase, a true classic touch, further decorates the watch face. The leather band wouldn't be my first choice but it adds to the nostalgic effect. That effect is terrific.

For Him
Lucien Piccard men's Babylon watch is huge! A quality timepiece with some serious heft. The leather band is supple and the face is quite large. This is a man's watch for certain. I like the face design--simple yet not plain, can be worn as everyday style.
