Q: Can this be watered down if it's darker than I would prefer?

It is water based and may work. Try it on a scrap piece of wood. You can put a little on a rag and spread it with the grain over a larger area and then add more if needed.

Q: Can this be used on laminate counter tops?

It is a wood stain and I used it on wood. I do not know if it would work well to stain laminant. There may be some food safety issues. My countertops get a lot of wear and it may stay on very long.

Q: Can this be used with a semi transparent stain? If so which should be applied first?

It is already stain. I do not know what would happen if you put transparent stain on top. You could try it on a scrap piece of wood. I did apply a layer of clear polyurethane on top.

it is transparent for the most part. the more you layer it on, the darker it gets.
