BSX Records presents The Music of Battlestar Galactica For Solo Piano, a two-disc set featuring piano performances by Joohyun Park of Bear McCreary's groundbreaking score. The album features appearances by soprano Melanie Henley Heyn and McCreary himself, who performs "Kara Remembers" which was conceived as a track to be played by four hands, with Park.

Great Music from One of The Greatest TV Shows ever.
This is a great CD. The music, of course, is from the wonderful BSG TV show from the Sci-Fi Channel, 2003-2009. All of the songs are easy to remember from the show upon first listen. But hearing them stripped down like this, without the orchestration or other persussion, to bare bones is really cool. The playing by the pianist, Ms. Park, is really great too. Apparently, Bear McCreary, the composer, chose to have another pianist actually perform the songs on the CD. He may have "assisted" here and there (on "Kara Remembers", I think), but overall it is Ms. Park's interpretation of McCreary's great songs. If you are a fan of the show, and its music, then I highly recommend this CD as an essential element to add to your collection.

Great piano renditions.
It's not the original soundtrack, (which nobody seems to be selling unless it's a huge markup on eBay) but it is well done piano renditions. I especially liked Kara Remembers and Passacaglia.

A solid arrangement; a fitting tribute.
This recording, which appeared with little fanfare, provides a new and pleasing interpretation of the music of the reimagined Battlestar Galactica series. A double album, the running time is around 95 minutes. The performance of the pianist might best be described as "muted," or perhaps "reserved." While certain heavy-hitting tracks such as "Resurrection Hub" and "The Shape of Things To Come" retain their expressive finales, the overall soundscape of the album is subtle. Is this to be expected when translating orchestral scores into a solo piano work? Perhaps. It certainly does not detract from the listening experience, as each track retains the core intent of Bear McCreary's composition while existing within its own individual context as performance pieces. This is not a direct translation of the action of the series soundtracks, but it is a unique entity, and a great compliment to the original score.

It's wonderful! While I loved the music from Battlestar Galactica
In all honesty, I initially thought this recording was something of a joke (like elevator music). But I listened to sound clips, then purchased the CD. It's wonderful! While I loved the music from Battlestar Galactica, I enjoyed that original music in the context of the show, and not as a stand-alone recording. This translation of the soundtrack into a classical piano format works beautifully. I recommend this recording for anyone who appreciates solo classical piano works.

Amazingly helpful
I bought this album (MP3) specifically because I have Bear McCreary's Battlestar Galactica Solo Piano sheet music book and wanted something to help me with learning the various pieces.Pros: Great music, amazing pianist, good value for the money.Cons: the audio compression is so low that unless you're routing this through a hi-def sound system or listening with headphones you have to crank your volume to maximum & even then might not be able to hear it, Useless trying to use the built in speakers on my phone & tablet.

For the Bear McCreary Fan
I admit it. I love Bear McCeary and Battlestar Galactica. I have all the soundtracks and this was an obvious addition to the set. It's very different to hear some of my favorite music in a very different mode of expression and the pianist does it beautifully. This CD proves that the BSG soundtrack is not just a score but beautiful music in and of itself.

Very Happy with This Purchase
Beautifully played piano solo selections from the series. Sometimes the piano sounds like an entire orchestra - it's that good! Fantastic to have this along with the sheet music book offered on amazon too.

A good series without a suitable soundtrack is but a portion ...
A good series without a suitable soundtrack is but a portion of what it can aspire to be. BSG was a great series with an amazing soundtrack. This rendition brings some of the best composition to the fore without the accompanying excess.

Wonderful piano - even better than the BSG film music
Bought for my daughter, who loves all the BSG albums, but it is also has become my one of my favourites. The piano is wonderfully evocative - a kind of cross between Keith Jarrett and Philip Glass. Whereas I find the actual BSG film music at times rather brash, this is more classical and more complex.
