FALSE ADVERTISING
Aventis is not selling the ds920+, they are selling the ds923+. They are also aware that they are misleading customers and have admitted as much to me in email. They say the ds920+ has been discontinued by the manufacturer and are selling the newer version. Of course this makes no sense because the two models are not remotely comparable for use cases that require video transcoding like a Plex media server, which is the ds920+ is very popular and sought after for. Furthermore, they are a third party reseller, so saying their reason for misleading customers is that the ds920+ has been discontinued makes no sense at all. That is why I had to go to third party reseller! This listing should be updated or taken down for intentional misrepresentation.

Great purchase
Easy to setup and connect to both my general network and Sonos. Using Raid 5. Was a bit worried setting up all the drives and memory could be a bit tricky, but it couldn't have been easier. Took less than 10 minutes.

You will receive a DS923+, not a DS920+
New in the box 920s are worth their weight in gold, so if you're thinking of buying this overpriced bundle, replete with disposable extras such as tiny non-synology drives, non-synology memory, and a useless non-synology M.2 drive (which you cannot use as a storage pool), all just to get your hands on a 920+, you're out of luck. You will not receive a new 920+. As of the time of this writing, they're probably extinct. You will open the box and find a 923+ inside, which, if you're here, is not what you want. This comes with the R1600 chip, so no integrated graphics and only 2 cores, resulting in major stuttering issues and less responsive VMs. If you're looking to set up Plex, the 923+ is an inferior option to a used or refurbished 920+.

Complete ripoff - build your own Synology setup
Love the Synology NAS, but this package is a complete ripoff. See Jonathan H's comment on December 27, 2021. You're not buying from Synology, you're buying from a third party called Aventis, who is just marking everything up. There is no benefit whatsoever to buying this all-in-one package, because you still need to install the hardware and configure all the software, which is not difficult. Buy that NAS direct from Synology, then buy the drives and RAM separately and configure it yourself. Synology makes it a breeze with DSM 7.0.

Great until it suddenly stopped working
We purchased our Synology NAS in 2021 and it worked great until this year (2025) when it suddenly stopped working. This is not due to any mishandling of the unit or damage, and the hard drives are fine. We reached out to Synology's customer service and while kind in disposition, there's nothing they could do in terms of replacement and simply directed them to their FAQ section for possible resolutions, which are hard to comprehend without some technical knowledge (at least for me), or access to a PC.Not sure if there are any more reliable options out there, but I recommend thinking twice before settling on this one.

Love Synology
the value that you get is second to none. Yes they are expensive, but that is mainly the drives. All the "subscription free" things you can do is well worth it.
