AKA "The Slow Blues Album"
Classic SRV blues. In my opinion, the highlights of this CD are Tin Pan Alley (live with Johnny Copeland) and Dirty Pool. Several other songs seem to have identical openings that I couldn't tell the difference between until the vocals started. 4 stars for the music because this is SRV in all his blues glory. -1 star because the CD arrived with a cracked case. But the CD was fine. Not sure whether it was shipped this way or whether the case was damaged during shipment.

Ripoff!!!
Ripoff!!! I own every SRV album and all this one is 3 live tracks that you can get anywhere and tracks from his albums that we already have. This is just a way to make money off his name.

Listen carefully - "Blues at Sunrise" is not just a compilation!
The first thing I noticed on "Blues at Sunrise" is it's distinctive 'raw' feel, irrespective of the fact that several of the tracks are on earlier SRV CDs. Wondering what others thought of it, I read all the reviews here and noticed several complaints that these tracks are just rereleases.Being sure that these reviewers missed something, I listened to the 'original' tracks (as they first appeared - on "Soul to Soul", "Texas Flood", etc) and compared them respectively to those on "Blues at Sunrise". The 'rereleased' tracks on "Blues at Sunrise" have been - I would argue - remastered - with spectacular results. "The Sky is Crying" for example not only sounds very different; it is much more powerful.Throughout the set, it's as if a layer of dust has been removed. SRV's guitar work sounds more lucid, fuller, and rounder; it is more expressive as the nuances have been allowed come through. And the depth of SRV's emotional range is more evident; his vocals are stronger, deeper and more prominent. You hear more of what he has to say - and you gain a greater understanding of the man. The arrangements sound looser and freer (I heard the drumwork as if for the first time). The overall result is that these tracks sound more like live performances, and this explains the carefully folded in 'live' tracks. But I don't mean to sound cynical here, as there is a noble purpose in "Blues at Sunrise"; and that is to elucidate the man's talents more clearly. You can see how and why each track was so carefully chosen - not only to illustrate the range & depth of SRV's vocal and guitar skills, but to present a package of slow, emotive and raw blues such as you would hear in 'real' places - gritty clubs and bars. Not just a compilation, but a must listen for SRV and blues fans alike.

SRV blues guitar king........
SRV is a king amongst the blues kings. An early recording details both his very sophisticated physical and musical chops. The sky cried the day the world lost so prematurely this blues guitar genius. Get this album and enjoy what is missing from so much in todays music. Virtuosity on ones instrument. Enjoy.

Blues at sunrise for me not owning this sooner
Are you kidding me!!! I just received this CD and was backing it up to my HD. I just started listening to it and had to write this review before I am half way through listen to it. I know other reviews said the material is available on other recording but it is the first time for me hearing this version of the material. I have Most if not all his studio albums in vinyl and CD formats but this is well worth the investment..... In fact I just ordered 3 copies for my friends who are fans and I don't think they have this work either. For blues fans who may not be Stevie fans this is an excellent introduction.

Blues & Groove pur. Absolute Kaufempfehlung,
