The Aloha Shirt: Spirit of the Islands

This book is probably the most informative piece on Aloha hawaiian-made shirts out there. If you’re a collector, retailer or just a fashion hobbyist, this is a must-have.Also, this book is gorgeous. Since I put it on my coffee table I couldn’t get it away, and any guest coming over can’t resist picking it up and looking through it.

I can only give it three stars because the book arrived with black smudges on the front, which is such a bummer -- it's a gift I need for tomorrow!!! Other than the damage, it looks like it is very informative and beautifully done. Will re-order (and pay extra for expedited shipping) just so I can still present it tomorrow.

This is really a fantastic book and would be of great interest to anyone that loves wearing these shirts.My only regret about this book is it does not have some of the fantastic examples of the Reyn Spoonerrayon designs from the 1990s and at least a few of the patterns from Tommy Bahama silk shirts from the present.

For anyone who loves Hawaiian history and Aloha shirts this is a treasure. We saw it when we went to an art show in San Diego CA about the history of the Aloha shirt.

Fabulous book! I am researching Hawaiian scrap quilts, a previously undocumented tradition, and the garment companies produced a lot of the scraps used in the quilts. So, it is great to have this book. I wish there were more like it, especially for muumuus.

Many images of great Hawaiian shirts, but the print quality of these photos lack detail.. print work is like newsprint quality. As a collector I was hoping to see more crisp detail in the images and it's not there.

Outstanding addition to my library. Magnificent photography and explanations of the history of the aloha shirt and a period of Hawaiian history.

I bought to give as a gift. I have been told by the recipient that the book is very interesting and informative.

This is a beautifully presented and illustrated book, but it seems to be a collection of snapshots about the Hawaiian shirt and textile industry and the individuals concerned rather a continuous account with real historical or artistic depth. The author has gone to great trouble to research the development of this industry and for me it is a pity he has not presented his findings in a more seamless (!) way

Abbildungsqualität billigst (keine Struktur, keine Bildtiefe, kleines Format), d.h. lieblos. Text ok. Letztlich ohnehin nur (Freizeit-)Hemden, keine (Abend-)Mäntel etc. Überteuert.

This is a very good book filled will source material and achieve photographs for reference to Aloha and its fashion and culture through the ages.
