Functional Luxury For a Budget Price (updated for the iPad Mini 2 w/ Retina)
I ordered this case last week in anticipation of the impending iPad Mini Retina launch. It ended up coming the day after my iPad so I eagerly got down to the business of installing and fitting the case (a little stretching is always necessary with natural leather products). After four days of use, I could not be happier! The case was a little difficult to get the iPad into (again, to be expected with natural leather), but it still took less than 5 minutes to get it fitted to my liking. Things (like the raised button areas and the camera hole on the back) are still a tiny bit off-center, but they do not inhibit the use of the device at all, and in time (probably less than a week), I suspect they will line up perfectly. The look of this case is nothing short of fantastic. It's sleek black leather looks at once both business-ready and stylish (I can't speak to the cognac-brown, as I didn't purchase that color). The seam stitching (on the sides and down the fold-able middle crease on the front flap) is tight and professional looking, with not even a single loose thread. If I had to pick one (extremely small) gripe with the case, it would be the larger than necessary stamped logo on the front-lower-right corner. It's not hugely obtrusive, but it does draw your eyes off of the otherwise beautiful lines and stitching. I feel like it would have been much better placed on the inside corner of the front flap. Still noticeable for branding purposes, but not detracting from the overall style. The feel of this case is fantastic. The rich (ever-so)lightly textured leather on the outside of the case feels very good in my hands as I carry it closed. The inside of the case is a supple suede that is truly a pleasure to hold while reading a book on my iPad. Because the cover is attached (an admitted concern of mine pre-purchase), the only option when using the iPad anywhere other than a flat surface is to fold the cover back behind it. This concern was wash away almost immediately upon feeling the wonderful soft suede though. I read a book for over an hour in bed last night and I never once got tired of holding the case. It was much more comfortable than the hardcover book I would have read as an alternative. Finally, I feel it necessary to mention the functionality of the case. The cover flap stayed attached with more than enough strength thanks to the integrated magnets. Like Apple's Smart Covers, those magnets also lock the iPad when I close the cover (a nice feature to have). Several other reviews on here mentioned that the stand feature (folding the cover back as a stand) didn't work so well right out of the box. I found this to be untrue in my case. I immediately propped it up on my kitchen counter and used the iPad to read a soup recipe while I cooked (pretty much the first thing I did, in fact) and it worked flawlessly.Taking all of the above into consideration, I would not hesitate to recommend this case. It looks fantastic. It feels fantastic. And best of all, it protects my iPad as thoroughly as an Apple case, but at nearly half the cost. Apple really could take a design queue or two from KAVAJ on this one (something I've never found myself saying before, as Apple is usually the industry leader in design).

Very nice case
I really like this case; it arrived promptly and was thoughtfully packaged. I would have given it a half star more if that option was available. I didn't rate it 5 stars because the cutouts for speakers and the charger are slightly off, covering a portion of one speaker. After working with the case as the product video demonstrated I was able to insert the charging cable smoothly. The flap on the back used to enable the iPad to stand is a bit difficult to use unless one has really long fingernails or something to pry it up. Also after using the stand the case needs to be realigned sometimes for all of the cutouts to be properly placed. All in all this is an excellent product, light, stylish in its simplicity, very soft leather.

I have had many ipad cases, this one is the best so far
I bought this case for my IPad mini with retina display. I have had three different IPads over the last few years. Original IPad, IPad 3 and IPad mini. On each I pad I have tried multiple different cases before finding one that I could live with.On my first IPad I settled on the original Apple rubber case. It provided really good protection. I sold my original IPad after three years and it looked like it came out of the box yesterday. It provided good grip and made the IPad easy to handle. The original Apple IPad case did not look very good by it was a good performer. On my IPad 3 I tried the Apple "smart" case and was very disappointed. It did not provide any protection for the back of the case and when carrying the IPad pinched between the thumb and fingers (The way we humans do) the magnets would break free and the case would slide off dropping the IPad to the ground. Also if you tried to use the IPad while standing up, and wanted to fold the case behind the IPad the magnets would break free. So you had to remove the case and put it somewhere so that you could hold the IPad with one hand and touch the screen with the other. This was the worst case I ever tried.I also tried the Logitech keyboard case. It did not provide very good protection, but it did act as a really good stand for the IPad. I ended up getting a Velcro strap to wrap around the pad and keyboard to prevent the two from separating when carrying them. I used the keyboard a lot but the feature of the Logitech keyboard that I like the most was that stand. It was even usable while standing up something you could not easily do with the apple smart cover. The Apple smart case is a big improvement over the Apple IPad "smart" cover. It was the first case that I purchased for my IPad mini. When I folded the cover to make a stand on a table, most of the time the iPad would end up falling flat on the table. So the search continued.Next I tried a mEdge folio that I found at Walmart. It was only $20 and made stable stand, but it was bulky and felt cheap. I used this for a few months because it was so much better than the Apple smart case.I have only had the Kavaj case for 24 hours but so far I am very pleased with it. The quality of the leather is outstanding. Fit and finish that I have not seen on any of the other iPad cases. The cover folds over and makes a stable stand so that is good. Provides a good grip while carrying. Everyone that has seen it has said I can't believe that this was only $45.Best IPad case so far.

Disappointing quality and construction
This case still is protecting my iPad but I am increasingly disappointed in the build quality and day to day functionality. In multiple areas, the thin leather layer has torn and pulled away from the plastic layer underneath. The case has two "stand" positions, a flat position for typing, and an upright position for watching videos. Due to the way the case lid bends, it is difficult to get the upright position to hold without the iPad tipping over. I usually just prop it up on something more sturdy. The biggest issue for me is the "looseness" that has developed in the case. The iPad shifts around a few MM, preventing access to the lightning and 3.5mm aux jacks. The iPad must physically be pushed back into the case to make the holes line up properly.Still, even with these issues, it is a very functional case with pleasing ascetics. I just don't think it is worth the price.
