HP Color LaserJet Enterprise M554dn Duplex Printer (7ZU81A),White

Pros - I have abused the crap out of this printer and it just keeps on going like the energizer bunny. Prints fast, short warmup time, excellent color printjng.Cons - the cost of replacement toner cartridges is ridiculous. Printer complains if you try to use a generic cartridge.Would I buy again? You bet!

I'm just so happy with this printer. I've had it a bit over 6 months and just love it. No problems at all yet. Fast, quiet. I hope the fact that it's a pretty new design that it will continue to hold up over the years. I was hesitant to order a printer model that had been out for a decade.

HP makes reliable business-class laser printers, and the M554 is (generally) not an exception. It's sturdy, quick to wake up, quick to put its first page out, and quick to print the rest of your job. But to my surprise and disappointment, the first machine I received came from an "HP Returns" center, and sans HP foiled logo on the front of the unit. Furthermore, the unit was missing its customary orange shipping straps -- a secondary but persuasive indication that I got a "refurbished" product at best, at the new price. If I bought a second-hand machine with disclosed wear-and-tear, I'd think nothing of it. But I bought a new machine at its new price -- but that's not what I received. HP, you're a mega-giant -- I get it -- and you won't blink if I take my $880 to Lexmark or elsewhere. But, come on. Step up your QC. Amazon was great, however, and made me happy with a replacement.

I like the printer. Prints clear and fast. However, one of the reasons I chose this printer was because it was supposed to duplex print. It only duplex prints if you feed the second page. Kinda of a bummer for the price.There is no home menu on the printer to see what the settings are. When you go into the software on the computer, there are no settings in the output for 2 sided for automatic duplex prints.The printer software is a little slow**UPDATE** 10.25.24 ... This printer has now stopped printing FAST! IWaites several minutes and the delay is frustrating. I have checked the settings, and it has an automatic energy saver eco mode and they have it set up in the settings where you can't turn it off. Shuts down after not using 1 minute.

I tried buying direct from HP and have been waiting to hear from them for 2 months about buying this printer. I contacted Amazon and had it in office running in less than 1 week. Awesome

Purchased 9 months ago. It would occasionally reboot itself mid print. At first I assumed it was insufficient power, since it was sharing power with a couple of PCs and seemed to happen when they were also on... but now it's on it's own 20A breaker circuit and still doing it. As an IT guy I've managed and owned many Enterprise HPLJ devices, and this M554dn is the first to behave this way. Maybe it's a lemon, but we'll have to pursue warranty repair with HP. If I had to get another printer, it would not be this model.
