I've been searching for real Demerara sugar to make a rich syrup for tiki drinks and finally found it here. This is not your standard turbinado sugar you find in a grocery store. I put this head to head with Florida turbinado sugar in a blind taste test and this won every single time with a flavour that is impossible to find elsewhere. Floral notes give way to a slight vanilla with rich molasses playing support in the background. I have found myself using this exclusively in my coffee and tea these days as all other sugars are just sweet but good Demerara sugar is an experience.

This expensive sugar was the recommended substitute for what most people consider real Demerara sugar -Karibbean Flavours Culinary Demerara Golden Brown Cane Sugar - which I have bought over and over again. For unexplained reasons, that sugar brand is not available anymore here on Amazon. This sugar, also from Guyana, is not even a contender. The turbinado sugar from Florida Crystals tastes closer to demerara than this stuff. If that rich caramel demerara flavor is what you are looking for, you won't find it here.

Very good flavor, seems high quality. Not labeled as Demerara, but crystals look like it.

I was really looking forward to using the demerera sugar but am hesitant now. I don't know how much leaked out before shipping or if the hole was chewed by something in storage...ugh.
