What makes it glow in the dark- phosphorus or radium?

Definitely NOT radium. If exposed to direct sunlight for a few minutes it will glow for a few more minutes. Not much illumination at night. Was disappointed with this, but still like the clock a lot. Smooth, continuous hand movement and silent. Keeps good time and batteries last quite awhile.

Is this a non ticking clock?

Yes, absolutely smooth and silent. I have had this clock for a few months now, and I am 100% satisfied with its function.
