For the home kitchen, rather than a sushi restaurant, an excellent choice
There's a reason this little device sells so well -- it produces a fiercely sharp edge with minimum effort. There are a couple of caveats:This will not produce the razor-smooth edge of a sushi knife. It leaves a burred edge like a microscopic saw blade. But that is what many, if not most, home cooks want, to cut easily through hard vegetables or to joint a chicken with no effort. This will also take a fair bit of steel off your blade each time you use it -- witness the little shavings left behind. Again, though, for the home cook, who is likely using a knife which doesn't cost many hundreds of pounds, that is an acceptable exchange for a very sharp edge. Over a decade or so, you might find your knife getting thinner, but I personally don't worry about that. The way the world is going, we'll all be lucky to be here in ten years.Highly recommended, but don't use it on your sushi knife.

Its OK - but use very carefully
I've had some very mixed results with this - I've got a variety of knives in the kitchen from some very cheap ones to a couple of mid-range ones (£25-£30 per knife). This worked really well on the cheaper knives, but has caused significant damage to a couple of my better ones. I think its less suited to the harder metal that the more expensive ones are made from.In fairness, I think the damage is probably at least in part user error on my part by applying too much pressure - but given how its marketed I dont think thats a reasonable excuse. It either shouldnt be possible to damage the blade - or there should be some very, very clear warnings on the package (I mean a block red letter slip wrapped around the unit)So overall - I wouldn't buy again - but I will be keeping it to take on holiday as a quick way to put an edge on cheaper knives in holiday apartments (that often feel like they'd struggle to spread butter)I've ended up buying a proper knife repair/maintenance kit (Lansky) to fix the edge on the couple of knives damaged by using this device.

certainly sharpens
certainly sharpens though not sure i would want to use it regularly on expensive knives as it removes slivers of metal, these slivers are very sharp and great care required cleaning the sharpener and area used for sharpening, use a paper towel and put it straight in the bin, on no account touch these slivers of metal as they will easily penetrate the skin.

This sharpener is quite a surprise!
The sharpener is so compact (i.e. small) that at first sight it's easy to assume that it can't be very effective. In fact, it's the most efficient sharpener I have ever used - and with a 2-year guarantee you're definitely going to get your money's worth! I thought my knives were already pretty sharp, but this little genius is a knockout!

An asy way to get very sharp knives
After years of abuse and accidental drops, the knives in my knife block were about as sharp as the block itself. I bought this as a cheap way of avoiding completely new knives, and to see if the ones I have could be saved. The suction cup doesn't work brilliantly on any of my work surfaces, but enough to get around 6 passes of the blade through the sharpener. It's not a huge deal to re-secure it, but annoying when you need to run the knife through a lot of times....and a lot of knives.Prior to using this, cutting grapes or tomatoes would have been just as effective using a hammer as my knives. After this I can cut through them with near-zero pressure

Has revived all my blunt knives
Fabulous. Two or three strokes was enough to put a sharp edge on some very blunt kitchen knives. The suction pad is very effective - you just have to make sure the sharpener is on a smooth surface, such as a ceramic hob.

Rubbish
If something looks to be good to be true, it just simply is not. Suction does not work. To small to actually grip to sharpen a knife. Managed to sharpen one knife, well sort of. The result is average at best, and probably wont last long. I think its a crap stocking filler.

Best knife sharpener we've owned
I like the size of it, much smaller than it appears in the pictures. It's a great knife sharpener, easy to stick on a cupboard or door and so very handy to access. What more are you looking for in a product of this nature?
