Great tool for working drummers that need a few samples along
I've had this for around a year now. Use it live exclusively. So far, I've had ZERO problems. IT's been a very solid piece of gear. I downloaded all the Alesis sounds onto the card, but mostly I use the built in sounds. I don't need a ton of samples these days, but I do need things like handclap. I could get tamborine/cowbell setups, but our mixer is out of inputs, so I use these electronic versions. Nice that it has built in reverb!I've yet to use an external trigger, but I"m thinking about it. I could use a small pad, right honey?Pros: good clean sounds, small size fits anywhere. Pads are nice. Solid construction and dependable performance. .Cons: I'd like a brighter view screen for outdoor shows. Not a big con, but I thought I'd mention it. Once in a while, the SD card pops loose, and I have to push it back in. This happens when casing / uncasing it, User error, but if it were inset somehow where one couldn't accidentally hit it, it would be better.Wish list. Make the same item with two more bar shaped pads along the bottom with a couple of more inputs, and you could built an entire drum set with this. Would be cool if it came in a roundish shape.

Not bad but not great
After reading pretty mixed reviews on the 4 pad product I decided to purchase it and give it a go. As much as I’d love to buy the spd-sx from Roland my usage of a drum pad doesn’t justify the cost.I’ve used it a couple weeks now. I use it solely for live settings. Haven’t really had the line out buzz others have mentioned. I did hear it the first time I used the headphone jack to test the unit but haven’t heard it since. I run the pad with just mono out thru a direct box.The volume output is on the lower end. I have to max out the main output volume and the volume of the samples has to be at 10. For the softer samples it’s somewhat difficult to hear over the rest of the mix.All in all for the price it does what I need it too and didn’t cost $800. I also use a Roland snare trigger and run it thru the pad. It was pretty much plug and play. No double triggering and I use it on my normal snare head. It’s a good unit for the price point if you just need something for samples here and there. If I used it consistently for almost every song I’d probably skip this and save up for the spd-sx.

Newer software, faster loading than the Samplepad Pro
I bought this to replace my Samplepad Pro (8 Pad) which was giving me serious issues with crackling, and eventually went into a full boot error. This little guy does the trick considering I only used 4 pads on the Pro.Easy to load from an SD card, and this one allows layering between on-board sounds and card-loaded samples, which the Samplepad Pro does not. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to add some pads to their acoustic kit.

just NOT a professional, on-stage option
I've been borrowing friends' spd-sx for years, and decided to try to the cheapest option as an on-stage drum sampler... To be fair, that was my own decision and my own mistake. This piece of gear would work really well for a drummer/producer needing to get scratch midi drum ideas into a DAW, where its not a huge to deal to clean up a section, drawing in notes the pad missed or deleting erroneous notes after the fact. The issues this unit has are: unreliable triggering from an individual pad (sound plays ~7 of every 10 hits) and the bleed from pad to pad (hitting a bass drum and a snare is triggered on a different pad).If you're relying on this on stage, you need it to work as close to 100% of the time as possible, which this unit just cannot do. Again, for $350 it was a longshot: I did end up returning this unit and biting the bullet on the SPD-SX.

Total junk
I wanted to use this module as the basis of a mini-edrum kit. I added a cymbal for hi hat and was planning on adding a nice snare. This was all to run into a computer over USB and trigger EZDrummer or Battery. But the pads are so terrible that I can't keep it and will return, along with all the other hardware I bought. The right shoulder pad on mine only triggers half the time with the sensitivity at max. It is just as likely to trigger a different pad when I hit it. Looking online, I'm not the only one to have issues with the shoulders. The other pads require too much force to register a full hit. I don't want to have to beat the bejeezus out of this thing. The sensitivity curve goes from 1-8 but 1-7 don't make much difference and 8 is every note at max. The curve and auto-off timer settings reset when you turn the unit off. I've had to re-do kit settings tons of times because it would shut off and discard anything unsaved after 30 minutes because I took a break or was looking for help online.

Fantastic piece of equipment!!
I felt intimidated to use this, it’s my first piece of equipment that plugs in. I received a drum trigger for a gift and watched some YouTube videos and visited Alesis’ website and downloaded their many extra free loops and samples. When it came down to use I was blown away at the ease of use. For someone who can feel overwhelmed by tech I can say that I felt comfortable setting it up, adding and using a kick drum trigger. I have added some info my own loops I wrote on a synth. I use it on a snare stand to the left of my hats and am comfortable with that. It’s opened up a whole new world of drumming for me, at, what I feel, to be a very reasonable price.Only purchase 32 gig SD cards as anything larger can not be read. I’m very, very excited about this purchase!
