Dharma: For Awakening and Social Change (How to Live a Spiritual Life Series)

Dharma is the answer to it all
No idea coming to us from the East has been more important or more useful than that of Dharma. “This essential longing to return to your Divine nature is the call of Dharma,” writes Maetreyii Ma, Megan Nolan, in her book “Dharma for Awakening and Social Change.”This broad and comprehensive book is quite wonderful and stirring, dealing not only with an individual’s personal calling, mission or moral purpose, but also with the collective ethical thrusts of social groups and nations. It is a great service to receive these teachings so clearly at this time when a vast proportion of humanity seems to have lost all sense of their Dharma and the world, as a result, seems to be running rapidly towards an inevitable cataclysm. Dharma is the way out of our addiction to the personal desires which have mired us all in a dissipating materialism. It is the way beyond egoistic drives towards selfish personal ambitions, and into a great liberation of mind, body and soul for the entirety of mankind. Having hit a low point in our collective existence has triggered the spiral of a great reawakening. This book nobly serves that reawakening. While the narrative being broadcast by mainstream media is one of increasing greed, foolish decisions being made by inept politicians and business rulers, beneath that and all around us many people, especially among the young, are becoming aware of the need to save our planet, are working for the environment, resurrecting wholistic practices to save our food supply and ceaselessly communicating through social media to educate themselves. “The forces of light,” this book reminds us, “are more powerful than any other force upon the planet today. This movement of consciousness and awakening awareness is spreading to millions upon millions of people. Out of this grass root revolution of consciousness will come the transformation that is needed.”But this book is not an accumulation of “New Age” vagaries and projected wish-fulfillments. Rather, through a deep understanding of all aspects of Dharma, very well and convincingly presented, it shines Light on a time-honored inevitable process of awakening. It is a truly inspiring work and could not have arrived at a better time.“Dharma does not belong to any religion. It cannot be owned or incorporated by anyone,” writes the author. “It is universal and belongs to everyone. All the ways which are in harmony and alignment with your true nature ultimately direct you to the path of Dharma.”Harvey Meyers

Beautifully written, easy to read and timely for our world. Not to be missed.
As I read this book I kept finding jewels of truth that I resonated with on a deep level. I was able to have a much clearer understanding of what Dharma is and how by being in alignment with my personal expression of dharma I can help to shift the balance of society from being out of harmony to one that is in harmony.+ This book explains what a society that is in harmony with Dharma and the Tao can be like and what one that isn't can be like. It shares how as a society we have to build the internal structure that values human lives and the wellbeing of all before profits and materialism. There have been cultures that have existed that have done this already and in order for us to do that we need to be in alignment with right action, the flow of life. "Materialism will not feed the human heart or spirit."Dharma addresses what ails our world and how we can shift the outcome."Change society by changing yourself and by spreading ideas about dharma to others." It exposes what is out of balance in our world today and how we can bring our world back into balance. It offers a message of hope for us all in these times of great transition.

A different path
A different take on the problems of this world and possible solutions. I wouldn’t really go that path that’s what the writer is talking about so I respect the opinions. But I for one, think the problems we have goes deeper than that. They are not so simple. An interesting point of view nonetheless. For transparency, I got an ARC of this book.

Insightful
A fine, well-organized exegesis of eastern philosophical concepts expressed in easily digestible language and without big turgid chunks. This is a book that can really serve as a guide to living a more perfect life.
