Amazing, and 10 inches!
Amazing. Wow. Unbelievable, etc..I'm sure the price will fluctuate, but at 45% off list price, this is an awesome knife. I was shopping for a bread knife, and I thought I might get one of the stainless steel ones with the plastic handle until I saw this. The steel does indeed seem to be the same or similar high carbon steel used in the famous German knives (Wustoff, Henkel, etc.) It's very sharp, and cuts a crusty loaf like butter. I just cut a crusty loaf, and the knife cuts straight and accurately--doesn't pull to one side, and can cut paper thin if you want. Most bread knives are 8 inches, which I always think is too short, so the extra 2 inches is a welcome bonus. The wood handle is teak, which maybe wouldn't be my first choice of wood, but I wanted a wood handle so I'm happy. It's attached very cleanly to the forged steel--no gaps. there are no ferrules, so i'm guessing some sort of epoxy. The knife feels solid and well balanced, and I'm optimistic that it will last forever with proper care. One extremely slight criticism is that the edges on the non-cutting part of the blade (the top) are not filed, so they're a little sharp. I don't know if that is a style thing or not, but I might round mine over with a file.To sum up, I feel like I got an heirloom knife at an extremely good value. There were no unhappy surprises or major disappointments. I bought a santoku knife Cangshan D Series 59168 German Steel Forged Santoku Knife, 7-Inch from the same manufacturer, and I'm equally happy with it.EDIT: Some people are concerned about the country of origin. It says right in the product description (halfway down the page) that the origin is China.

It might sound crazy but it ain't no lie, baby
Excellent quality for the price. Full tang is sweet. Wood handle, doubly sweet. Cuts crusty bread well. It's a little hefty. It feels really sturdy, but I'd almost prefer something a tad bit lighter in weight. But it's presentation completely makes up for it. I did notice however, slight micro fractures on some of the notches on the blade. I don't know whether it's from manufacturing or improper storage before boxing/shipping, but it's doesn't take away from its overall value, for me. I intend to pick up a serrated sharpening tool so I can maintain its sharpness for the years to come, so I'll just fix that issue. So I'd you'd like a knife that's a step in the direction of superior quality and aesthetic without spending upwards of >$100, and don't mind the small issues I seemed to have with it, then do as N'Sync says and "buy buy Buy BUY BUY!"

Awesome sharp bread knife!
Took a chance on this one, as have never bought this brand before. Have lots of custom kitchen knives, but nothing specifically for a bread knife. Really like that they included not only the type of steel, but also the Rockwell hardness figure, which most non custom knives do not divulge. Also love the longer length, as my previous bread knife, was only 8", and a 10" bread knife is a lot more versatile. And this baby came very, very sharp!

Way better than the crummy knife you've been using
Man, you don't realize how bad most bread knives are until you use a good one. A really good bread knife will slice through crusty bread with minimal crumbs, and it will get a lot of cutting depth with minimal sawing; given those criteria, this is one of the best I've used, especially for $35.This one cuts through day-old bagels like there's nothing there and, as I found out the first time I used it, slices so efficiently that you definitely shouldn't use it to slice a bagel in towards your hand until you're really used to it... yowch. Be careful--it gets a lot more cutting depth than what you may be used to... (At least it leaves a clean cut?)Anyway, it's an excellent knife, and for the quality you're going to have a hard time beating this one's price. Plus, like most knives you'll find, the stock photos don't really do it justice--it's a beaut in person.

Healthy Grilled Cheese at 1:1 ratio.
This can cut hard crusty bread cardboard thin. Handle is perfect... Well not perfect-perfect, but perfect enough not to notice it. I thought I might need to pull out a metal file or peice of sandpaper based on some of the other reviews, but imo the handle is fine.I can achieve 1:1 bread-to-cheese ratio in my grilled cheese sandwiches in a healthy and low calorie way with this knife. This replaces an inexpensive 10 year old 8-inch bread knife that wasn’t cutting it for homemade breads. We sharpen all of our other kitchen knives on our stone. This knife is stiff and sharp and feels like it will be pretty sharp for the next decade. My wife says it cuts tomatoes well.

Overall OK, but the handle isn’t flush with the knife.
I loved the classy packaging for this product. The knife is solid and beautiful. I won’t be cutting pounds and pounds of bread, so this isn’t a huge deal, but the wooden handle is not flush with the metal knife, so I could see there being an issue with cutting your hands if you were using this knife quite a bit. The quality isn’t great, which was odd considering the great care taken to package this knife. The metal seems good, and the wooden handle seems good, but they don’t fit together seamlessly.

I think there will be more opportunities to put it to good use in a myriad of tasks in the kitchen
This knife surpasses my expectations. Everything about it is exactly what I wanted. I finally had the opportunity to use it this past week and the blade was sufficiently long to cut across a layer cake. It slid through the frosting and cake without any compression and the slices had precision, clean sides so it was intact and not raggedy. The cost for such a functional knife is a steal and I may buy this for gifts in the future. It may be something one might not think about purchasing, but once you own it, I think there will be more opportunities to put it to good use in a myriad of tasks in the kitchen.

Beautiful and sharp; just one thing to know
I love this knife. It is beautiful and cuts like a charm.Only issue is a ridge of that there is perhaps a 1/10th of a mm between the steel and the teak scales (the wooden part of the handle) on the underside of the hilt. The top is perfectly smooth and I wished the underside was the same way. Hence, I give only 4 out of 5 stars.
