A very entertaining (and educational) read
I haven't read any other interpretations of the events of Alexander the Great's life, and so I cannot assess the reliability of this book by Jacob Abbott. However, I can guarantee that it will provide almost any reader a fun few hours. This happened to be the first book I read cover-to-cover on my Kindle, and the writing style and knowledge of Abbott has encouraged me to begin reading another of his works (on Genghis Khan.)Abbott provides the perfect amount of back-story in my opinion; informative and giving insight without diverting away from Alexander's story too much. Having read this book, I can see why Alexander the Great is one of the most revered leaders in history. The stories of his campaigns and numerous battles, if true, more-than-earn his place amongst the greatest leaders.

Where are the maps?!
This is a great starting point for anyone who wants to learn about Alexander The Great. It's simple, not too long and describes his character and conquests. However, the book itself makes countless references to maps and there are links to these, yet they do not work. The map images are NOT present. This proves especially frustrating when the author is trying to explain Alexanders progression through certain lands.Other than the map issue it's still a great read. And for the grand price of £0, you can't really go wrong!

Great read
Very interested and fascinating. Enough detail to paint a vivid picture of the time, but still short enough as to keep it to light reading. This is the third of Jacob Abbott's book that I have read and really would recommend them to anyone wanting to increase their history knowledge.Shame the map doesn't work, but google is only a few clicks away!

Interesting read
Enjoyed. Easy reading. Informative and surprising in parts. Could possibility have had a bit more detail but wasn't essential. Worth a look.

good basic outline
Excellent starter book on the subject of Alexander's life conquests and untimely death. All the basic facts are here without going into too much detail. However as others have said the map links don't work and can be quite annoying so have a map of the area on hand before you begin reading.

Alexander the great
Great starting point if you want to learn about Alexander. Highly recommended!(But slighly annoying as the maps which are in the original cannot be shown on the kindle.)

Thank you
I used to go to a local library to borrow some books, but have recently begun to download free books from Amazon using my Kindle when I have time. I am very glad that a lot of books are available free of charge. Thank you.
