Q: Can anyone tell me where to find a ignition switch for a new holland ls 45 garden tractor, with a kohler engine ?

quick research shows this machine is based on a toro wheel horse 260 series made from 95 to 03? The ignition switch for those tractors had terminals B, R, S, I, L. (switch grounds ignition) This switch is for mowers with a battery and an automotive style ignition coil and a separate starter solenoid. it has terminals S B A I R. (switch powers coil) Messicks.com has parts for new holland and you can look up your correct switch. An educated guess looking at their site says it is a new holland part # TR92D6785, which you can find on Amazon, but there is a lot of guessing here. See what it looks like

Q: does it have to have the same mounting points on it or just the right plugs to go into the cable?

I have a John Deere 216 I purchased this switch maybe 2 1/2 yrs ago. I received iot right away and it just plugged into my harness and fit into the hole in the panel where the old switch came out of. No problems. Happy with the purchase. Tony

as long as you go thru and match Magneto, battery, start, ground, and any other markings on back of switch and make 100% sure they are same with old switch it will work with 0 problems. the people here saying it melted wiring or blew fuses did not do that. they seen 5 terminal switch and threw it in and shorted out stuff. its not the switch it was the person who bought it that did not know what they were doing. i am a 15 year small engine mechanic who was sent to service schools for along time. You can also un pin your wires to match with a small bobby pin or needle. I am about to do the same today with this exact switch to make it work with my old antique garden tractor i restored years ago.

although this 5 pin switch mated with the harness. It would blow the main fuse when I turned the key on. Know your wiring schematic. I ended up using the old switch as it still worked.
