Hot RacingTE125 Differential Locker Spool TRA 2WD Elec

So long story short, put thread locker on both grub screws and tighten down really tight! Pretty sure I only did one side and it eventually loosened and wasn’t linking up. Took me a week and 3 complete tear downs to realize the problem. Definitely my fault though

I read the reviews was pretty skeptical but every other brand had the same reviews. Went ahead on bought this I didn’t have to drill anything I removed all the remaining gears inside the trans installed this with the rods still installed into the trans it fit perfect I did not loctite the locking bolt I did check to make sure it was tight and it was. I have about 8 hours on this slash with lipo batteries. Tires are fine. Motor stays at normal temp, it does wheelies now, does driftie boys all day. No problems what so ever so far and I beat the heck out of it. Great buy and for the price can you really say no?

While it does fine for locking up the differential, it's not so great for handling the torque put through it. Two tiny set screws resist the full axle torque. One set screw presses into the smooth axle shaft, the other side into a barely noticeable flat. After spending a couple hours tearing apart the car to get inside the transmission to replace this part and put it all back together, it started slipping after the third time accelerating. Then I had to start tearing it apart again to fix it...I ground down both sides of the axle shaft where the set screws dig into it so that they actually get some bite and it seems to be holding.This really should have a through hole and a locking pin (roll pin or similar) to more positively prevent the shaft from spinning.

Great quality, works as it should, before installation check the tightness of the set screws if they are loose back them out and coat the threads with medium strength loc-tite and re tighten. I installed the spool made a few passes then it was as if the transmission had let loose, tore it down and found that the set screws had backed at causing the spool to spin and not the cvd’s, other than that I am very pleased with the product

I'm giving this a 2 star review because it has potential, but is worthless without modifying. Only 1 Star if you can't over bore the outer holes. Now if you can bore the 4 outer holes with a 5/32 bit or step bit like in the photo it will work, the stock holes are all 3mm, I tried to ream the hole to an 1/8" but it will not line up with less than 5/32, that is the minimum diameter it takes to allow all 4 pins to seat in the diff case, whether you use the stock plastic or the Hot Racing sealed differential case.It is a good unit if you modify it like this and use locktite on the shaft set screws. You will lose some strength with the larger holes but the way it is supported in the case it should be fine. I still would not recommend this part, I'm just showing those who have already purchased this unit how to make it work. I would go with the Integy billet spool instead.Note: even if you want to try and just use 2 pins it did not line up to fit without persuasion from a tapping hammer and it may lock into the case so much it won't be able to be freed without damaging the differential especially the Hot Racing Differential Case. Also I usually love Hot Racing products and use their gears and even their Transmission including the slipper eliminator as all my rear drive and hubs are modified to be "bulletproof." Hot Racing has dropped the ball on the design and engineering of this part, the middle hole is worthless and should be removed so the 4 outer holes ca be beefier with the larger holes that are needed for this application:*Current setup is in a 2wd Slash converted to "Monster Basher" with a Mamba Monster X esc and 2200Kv sensored motor run by a 3s 7600mah 65c.

Lets just say not modified with a brushless setup its probably no good. I modified it Slightly and its awesome with no issues. Even works with the a/m rpm trans case. Installed on a rusted 2wd electric with a 5200kv brushless. 2s lipo hav not tried 3s cand stop breaking axles lol. But after shaving the one side flat for the 2nd set screw and using lock tight wich (should just be common sense). it works outstanding. 10 batteries of abuse and 2 sets of steel axles broken 😬 it holds up.

Great part from Hot Parts for the Stampede. 4 stars because Hot Parts could at least loc-tite and torque the set screws. My own dumb fault for not checking this so don't make my mistake, pull the set screws and squeeze red loc-tite into the hole until you see it squeeze out from between the axle and the actual locker. It'll stay for life and won't slip on the shaft.

pros!! it holds very well !! fits in stock diff well !cons!!had to modify slightly theres only 1 flat side i made 2 so it doesnt slipbest to install this in a hot racing metal diffunless youre wanting this for street you have little to no control on dirt ! but still kind of fun!definitely another piece to find new weak spots

Fits well only thing is to check the grub screws as mine loosened off after my first run and the center pin spun in the aluminum block

My rustler vxl blew up the gears in the differential and this piece slotted in perfect and works like a charm.

Purchased for my drag racing JConcept Eliminator Slash (2WD). Nicely machined and installation was a breeze.
