Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 1 (Ghost in the Shell: SAC)

I read this with low expectations; most stories that aren’t created by the original artist/created tend to be derivative of previous work or too “far out” from the source material. This is a nice SAM (Stand Alone Manga) with great art and well-paced storytelling using characters the reader either loves already or new readers that won’t be lost in a sea of references to prior adventures. Loved it!

Enjoyed the anime and definitely recommend the Manga so far. The complex storyline was familiar but good to revisit all the same. Plus bonus amusing story about the tachikoma at the end.

With time, we're getting more and more versions of GITS. The first 2 animes, which are indeed great. The Stand Alone Complex and Complex Society TV shows, which, according to me, are the best, even better than the theatrical animes (less impressive visually, but so much deeper in terms of ideas and concepts). Then we got Arise, clearly a disappointing reboot. And the live film, which can be enjoyed if we forget it's supposed to be a GITS (it's more a robocop story, when you think about it), but which betrays everything about the story. So, with time, the license is getting less and less good. But this comic book is clearly based on the Stand Alone Complex series, so it is a pleasure to find the characters we like back, in fascinating stories.

I finally got around to reading this about half a week after it was delivered and I have to say it was really fun to read. It was intriguing to read as the story unfolded and while only a few characters were actually fleshed out by the writer, they were really likable. This was my first exposure to Ghost in the Shell and it definitely made a good first impression on me. I will be buying the second book when I am able to.

Japanese Manga based on the Japanese Animation Ghost in the Shell : Stand Alone Complex. I personally do. It know which came first, the Manga or the Anime. But suspect the manga came after the series animation. The original Ghost in the Shell came out in manga before it got made into an Anime. The whole series is great Cyberpunk Anime. It's influence has been widespread in literature and movies.

I love Ghost in the Shell, but it's very hard to recommend this for the simple fact that it's a retelling of the first episode of Stand Alone Complex. Nothing new to be found here, folks!

Weird story! But exciting!

If you've seen the GitS: SAC anime ( Ghost In The Shell - Stand Alone Complex - SAC 1st GIG - Complete Box Set [DVD ]), you'll recognise this as it's the entire first episode in manga form; it's almost verbatim except for some minor changes in the action scenes that don't alter the main storyline one bit. It has its own unique brief Tachikomatic Days at the end but without the audible infectious curiosity of their animated counterparts it's far from essential. If it had been new adventures, with the same production quality, it would have been fantastic. It's still worth reading as long as you don't mind that repetition, or if you're new to the GitS world. As this manga of Stand alone Complex is basically a retelling of the fantastic anime that proceeded it in 2004. This manga series is really only for those die-hard fans who want everything they can get of Ghost in the Shell. However if you are not into anime yet love to read stuff on cyber punk then this will be an enjoyable experience for you.The Major is one of my favorite characters in manga/ anime. The art is serviceable and for the price offered by Amazon.AU it may be worth the punt even if you are not are hardcore fan!

No color pages that's why I don't give 5 stars for the price it is okay to buy. It is not westernized left to right like the last gits KC published. Thanks God for that! I like my manga to be as close to the original work. So yea, right to left.
