This universal charging cradle can power virtually every compact digital, SLR and camcorder in over 130 countries. It's intelligent electronics will automatically detect whether the battery requires a 3.2v input (for compact digital camers) or 7.2v (for SLR's, camcorders etc.) Simply select the required power supply (in-car or mains) for instant charging. Supplied with a USB charge cable (for powering from a PC), in-car plug, a UK mains plug, a US plug converter and a European plug adaptor, it's ready to give performance in over 130 countries. The chargers LED's give clear indication of battery charge status - press the silver button to indicate the level of battery charge - from 25% to 100%. The charger will also give a clear warning if a battery has been inserted the wrong way round (ie. positive to negative and negative to positive) - thus ensuring battery damage is not caused by a reverse polarity connection. Simply position your camera battery onto the chargers silver support bar, line up the adjustable contact pins, select the power supply (mains, car, USB) and you're ready to charge.

Warning - 9V output from apparently standard USB connectors
Beware. The charger cannot charge batteries greater than about 3.4V from a standard USB socket. It does not contain the DC/DC converter internally that would be required to do this. Instead it is supplied with a mains adaptor and a 12V adapter that both provide (according to the manual) more than 9V to what appear to be standard USB outputs. There are no clear and large warnings on either to let you know this and they look identical to standard adaptors, with 5V output, I have in the house already. It's only a matter of time before something is plugged into one of these adaptors. Will it be designed to work with, or even withstand, the higher voltage?I'm an electronics engineer and the idea of putting out a higher, non-standard voltage from an apparently standard connector appals me.But if the charger did what the advertising seemed to say it does, charging a 7.4V battery from a 5V USB socket, it would be brilliant. And that is possible for a little more cost.

Money saving gadget 5*
This has saved me a fortune - our HD videocamera wouldn't charge the battery with the connections and now instead of buying a new camera this handy device has solved our problems and easily charges the battery and I am sure I will find more uses for it in the future with the number of battery powered gadgets we have. Highly recommend this.

Disappointing
I had hoped from the description that this would replace a number of chargers but it does not take the battery for my Canon EOS 60D and I have to say that it is somewhat fiddly to use. Thus far somewhat underwhelmed.

Three Stars
Not as good as CamCaddy2 to many bits for the larger battery a bit fiddly.
