No chore goes unlighted!
I first saw my plumber using the DeWalt version of this light down in the crawl space of our 100 year old house. I knew I had to have one. No more holding a pen light in my mouth while starting a screw or being blasted by a megawatt work light 6 inches from my face!I own several older 18V Makita tools and they have been fantastic. Since my older tools used BL1830 batteries, I looked for a compatible Makita light. Unfortunately, Makita seems to have abandoned this battery and they don't list it as compatible with this light. I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on battery upgrades and new chargers just to have a better flashlight. I took a gamble (thanks to Amazon's return policy) and ordered the light. The 1830 batteries work perfectly! This light is their mid-range light. The lower priced version has more plastic and looks less durable. The "high end" Makita light is much too powerful for my use. It seems more suited for lighting a small auditorium!...not something one wants for close work. This light has the perfect intensity and beam width. It's range of motion and the included hook make it useful for many tasks and situations. I soon learned to detach the hook when I didn't need it. It has the talent to catch on any unwanted corner, pipe, edge, etc.. It's great when you need it.The 1830 3.0 Ah battery lasts me for a week of daily, brief use. What's not to like? Great product!

Fantastic worklight
I have somewhat small flashlights that may put out more light than this work light but those flashlights aren't very useful when I need something to constantly shine on something I need to work on and don't have an extra hand. I've already used this light several times only a few weeks after ordering. It may not have actually PAID for itself in dollars but it sure has in time and frustration. If you do any electrical work and have Makita 18v tools this (or a similar light) is a must. The other lights may be brighter and certainly worth checking out if you're a pro, but this is fine for me and my homeowner type work. The other thing I like about it is that it uses almost no battery life. I used this light 3 times for a total of about 5 or 6 hours and the battery still had the full number of charge lights (don't recall exactly how many that was, 3 or 4). That was with a new, mid-size Makita 18v tool battery so if you have an older or smaller battery, or one not made by Makita, your results may be different. However, it doesn't seem to use much in the way of energy. I think I even left it on during a work break, which might have stretched to 30 or 45 minutes! Indeed, turning it on and off a lot MAY use more energy than just leaving it on.Some have commented on the button and it being a little hard to locate by feel. Yes, that is a minor irritation, but think of it this way: you probably won't accidentally turn the light off. Besides, it isn't like it will take you 30 seconds to find it; more like 4-6 at the most. No big deal and nowhere near enough of a bother to knock a star off the review in my opinion.I highly recommend this for any Makita 18v tool owner. To me, at $30-40 something, it is a no-brainer purchase. I've also got a small led flashlight in my tool bag but this will go with me almost everywhere I need to do any household type work.

Great flashlight for those with Makita 18VLXT
I bought this a year after drill/driver combo and turns out I use this for every project. Those with the Makita 18VLXT system should strongly consider this flashlight, and wishing I had bought it earlier. Handy flashlight, brighter than expected. With battery installed it has a very solid, sturdy base and the adjustable light makes it the most usable flashlight I've got. Thus far very long battery life.I'm just a weekend warrior that tries to fix/handle all home repair/maintenance on my own rather than call in vendors. This is plenty of flashlight for me and in my opinion a good value. There are more expensive options, some much more expensive.

A great light if you already have Makita batteries
These are great all around lights. I bought my first one before the part number changed and I just got the current one - I can't see any difference between them. Paired with the smaller 1.5a battery this light is comfortable, light and very bright - more of a spot than a flood light. I use it mostly as a flashlight, but with the rotating head and sturdy base it can easily stand on a surface and be aimed at a project. I've never bothered with the supplied hook.My only reservation is that the lens has no cover, so it is vulnerable if tossed in a toolbox. At the price, a cover or case should be supplied. As with most Makita 18v tools, it is overpriced. If you don't already have the batteries, there are plenty of other more reasonably priced LED flashlights. If you do have Makita batteries, also check out the DML801. It's an equally nice light with somewhat different functionality.

Excellent bright light which lasts for more than 8 hrs!!!!
After three decades, decided to replace my old incandescent Craftsman light which has served me well. Having this Makati LED is certainly a big jump forward. 10'xs brighter and last for more than 8 hrs of continuous use. Its got a solid feel and a handy hook to hang around when working so hands are kept free. Works flawlessly with my Makita hammer drill 18V LXT Lithium-Ion batteries. There is another review which questioned the battery fit and he must have used the wrong ones. I had no issues at all!!!

decent light, well balanced
Provides decent light, seems durable. The hook is both good and and not so good, can be removed though. Hook catches easily on items when moving around engine bay, sometimes under chassis as well. As mentioned above, easy enough to remove hook and reinstall. Haven't used long enough to comment on long term durability. Overall good addition if you are running Makita batteries.
