These are the real deal. The city of Tula has been making prianiki for a very, very long time--it's a cool tradition. If you want to try old style Russian gingerbread, not some cheap knock-off, these are a great place to start. The black currant ones are especially delicious, but then every variety I have tried has been great.

For an evening snack with a hot cup of tea, I will take the taste of this cookie every time.

My memories of these were from eating them 30-40 years ago in Moscow. They were made with natural ingredients and as such could dry out quickly. They were never super moist to begin with, sort of like pryaniki. Good with tea; fresh or slightly stale, they could be dipped in tea/coffee like biscotti. These modern versions look the same but have a moistness to them that the originals had only at their freshest. I suppose to give them a shelf life these days, they need to add in a lot of other stuff, which I should have expected, I suppose, given the world of processed foods we live in. Photo attached so you can decide for yourself if you want to try these. I will not purchase these again. I will find a recipe and try to make them myself.

It was too hard on my opinion. Like too dry.

These pryaniki were really good. Like a fig newton but larger, more breading than filling, and they have the brand stamped into the breading. I purchased these through La Rina International Grocery Store and they came in perfect condition so I'd recommend them as first purchase of these treats.
