ASUS VivoBook X712FA 17.3" HD Laptop (Intel i3-8145U Processor, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD, Windows 10, Includes Bag)

At first, I was really impressed with the power of this laptop. It can run Photoshop, Outlook, web browser and a basic video editor at the same time - mostly without a hiccup, so I was really pleased. It takes an age to boot compared to my more powerful desktop, but that's fine, when it's running, it ticks along very happily. So, why only two stars? Two reasons:The first is a design issue. The keyboard lettering is a mid grey which, against the silver of the laptop means that from some angles and in certain light they are invisible. I've found myself tilting it to try to see the keys.The second is far more serious. It has a hard disk drive rather than a solid state. This completely failed only six months after I bought it. It crashed and would only boot to the motherboard setup utility. Worse, it crashed so completely and spectacularly corrupt, none of the data on it was recoverable - I lost everything. Asus will, I think, repair under warranty, but if it comes back with a replacement HDD I'll take to a laptop repair shop and get them to swap it for an SSD.

Nice, sleek and quick laptop.The only thing I don’t like is the silver keyboard. The light reflects on the keyboard and you can’t see the keys very well. Of course if you can touch type that won’t bother you.

Backlight not good and keyboard is hard to see at times. Camera is ok but not great

I had a problem with the camera app. It worked when reset but often did not come on during meetings. Hughes have given me full refund so I am a happy bunny

Amazon sent a model without a backlit keyboard and refuse to replace with the correct model. ASUS no help at all either. No alternative but to return and buy another PC from another vendor.

Absolutely brilliant lap top and a real life saver in this current climate

Working from home meant the need for a new laptop. After much searching and reading online articles I went for the Vivobook. I certainly haven’t been disappointed. The laptop is excellent in terms of speed and stability with the only occasional issue. The large screen makes it excellent for working with multiple documents and the picture quality is excellent. The camera and microphone work very well for video calls (Zoom, WebEx, Teams etc). Whilst I mainly use it for work it’s ideal for watching a movie, listening to music etc. The battery life could be a little better but I mainly use it plugged directly into the mains so perhaps that contributes to that. Overall very pleased with this purchase and would get another Vivobook in future.
