Pet Shop of Horrors contains episodes 1-4 of the anime directed by Toshio Hirata. Are you seeking something unusual in a pet to fill an empty space in your heart? Then venture, if you dare, into a strange little pet shop in Chinatown, where the mysterious proprietor knows your every need and desire. But watch out. When you buy from Count D, what you get may be what he thinks you deserve rather than what you want. So even if that rare rabbit does somehow look just like your lost child, perhaps you'd be safer shopping somewhere else. That's certainly what Detective Orcot of the LAPD would advise, as nightmarish things seem to keep happening to the shop's customers. Unfortunately, there's never been quite enough evidence to implicate the Count. And until there is, business will continue to boom.DetailsPublisher: SENTAI FILMWORKSMedia: Blu-raySpoken Language: English, JapaneseSubtitle Language: EnglishGenre: Horror, MysteryThemes: SupernaturalAge Rating: 15Run Time: 100Year Created: 1999Release Date: 7/9/2019Region Code: APet Shop of Horrors Blu-ray

Captivatingly strange and creepy
I found this series through Anime Abandon, it seemed interesting so I picked it up on DVD. After that, I started reading the manga, and the ones they adapted from it into the anime are captured perfectly in my opinion. I wish they had done more. The episode "Despair" really drew me in and made me want more. Count D is one of my new favorite anime characters. He's the typical "mysterious anime character", yet he is also crazy for sweets, seems very kind and actually cares for his animals. It's made clear that he's not the one controlling the strange powers that eminate from his pet shop. As if he's just a servant to many powerful beings disguised as animals. The episode "Dual" exemplifies this.Another thing is that the dub adds some extra cheesy dialogue for Leon; the voice actor for Count D is great too. The voice work is pretty well done for most of the characters. Sometimes it's goofy, but it doesn't detract from the story. The DVD menu itself is bare bones and the video quality isn't great, but I still recommend it.

I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE ITTTTTT!!!!!
I have been hunting for this anime series for SO LONG now I think it has been at least 5 years or more and when I found it on amazon I had to get.. there was no option!!! when I first watched this series (even though its only 4 episodes!!!) I was glued to the TV. It was like nothing I have ever watched before. The show is so morbid and your brain goes stir crazy trying to figure out what happens next and when you think you figured it out its not like what you thought at all. I love the psychological aspect to this show and the fact its super freaking creepy it just tops my list in favorite anime shows. I also love even after the shows done I still think about it and how it just blew my mind. I do wish that it had more episodes to the series I know I would be even more obsessed with it if they completed the series. Just like how I was obsessed the first time I saw it 5 years or so ago..

Can stretch itself at times, but will still make you think.
As far as "this shop will make your dreams come true," type stories, it functions pretty well. The way the pets prey on the personal flaws of the owners makes you hate the count, but the fact that they could have all been prevented by the owner makes for an interesting moral back-and-forth. Still, some of the outcomes are a bit of a stretch, and the count can be a bit on the annoying side at times. Still, it's an interesting watch, and the last episode was a very interesting look at an eastern idea applied to western politics via the Kirin, a mythical creature which is now one of my favorites thanks to this show.

Good horror anime for anyone
The media could not be loaded. The anime is super interesting, but the manga is better! The anime isn’t really blu-ray quality; however, for the price your paying it isn’t that bad. It is really interesting and I enjoyed it! It contains 4 episodes and is more of an ova rather than an actual episode anime series.

Short but Sweet Horror Series
This is a series that any anime horror fan should try. The atmosphere, music, and story in each episode sets the perfect stage for each mysterious tale that unfolds in Count D's Pet Shop. Not only will you have the pants scared off of you, but there's a moral at the end of every story so you'll learn something too. However, this is a very short series. It's only 4 episodes. So if you like the series but want to know more about the characters you'll have to read the manga series.

Worth it.
I love this show. I wish they made more episodes. Glad to finally own it. Count is my favorite character and I just adore little Q chan. It would have been great to see him turn back into Count's grandfather. Either way, the show is amazing and I recommend it to anyone that loves mysterious and creepy shows.

Has potential, but thats not enough
I first heard of Pet Shop of Horrors when I was browsing a cosplay website and saw someone dressed as one of the "pets" featured in the show. I thought, "wow! that's so cool and interesting! I should check this anime out!". Unfortunately for me, I didn't think the whole plan through. What I should have done was go on Wikipedia and read up about it, or, At the very least try to find an episode on youtube or another anime streaming website... NOPE! Not me! I'm kind of an impulse buyer and I do enjoy owning the anime I watch, so I went straight to Amazon for my purchase. At first glance $16.99 seemed like an awesome deal for the complete series. I was so excited! That is, until I realized the entire series consisted of four episodes.... yup! just four. Boy did I feel stupid. I then thought, "well, I hope it will be this awesome anime and be totally worth it!" then 2 weeks later, I got it in the mail, and it didn't get in my DVD player fast enough. To be completely honest, the story is cool, but the anime lacked, well, a little of everything. The animation was a joke, although the art was nice. The voice acting was terrible, though the characters are likable, but the truth is, its kind of boring. "Pet shop of Horrors" was a manga first, and a very successful one at that, so if you want to enjoy the story of this frightful pet shop, I suggest reading the manga over the OVA.
