either can be done, really the only reason not to iron it on would be if the surface is not good for ironing. examples include leather, rayon, materials that might melt or scorch.

I like to display my flag patch onto my front coat/parka above my heart, could a proud U.S. civilian do that or does it only apply to the military?

Wow! An incredible American flag patch.

Cypress Collectibles is an honest, family-run, Texas-based business. The American flag patch that I recently ordered is INCREDIBLE! The gold border is perfectly embroidered with the most gorgeous gold. The red, white and blue colors are vibrant and crisp with 50 of the most intricate, perfect stars. The ironing ability will be just as needed with the adhesive covering everywhere it should for effective, easy adhesion. The embroidery on this emblem is absolutely perfect, sized as advertised and exactly as you would want it. This is the most beautiful American flag patch that I have ever seen.
