Definately NOT the same old grind
I first heard about this pepper mill from America's Test Kitchen on PBS. In their testing this mill was top rated. I wondered if the pricey pepper mill would be worth it and It is.My complaint with most pepper mills are they are ugly, hard to crank and adjusting the grind is hit or miss and doesn't usually alter the finess of the grind that much. The Peugot Pepper mill is unique in having the adjustment for pepper grind on the bottom section of the mill's body and it is marked with lines showing you the grind setting. No more guessing, it gives a great range from very fine to corse and all at the turn of a ring. The grinding is easy as you turn the body of this classically designed wood mill. I love that it is made of wood and that it isn't too tall - some are way too tall for use when cooking. The mill is also easy to fill from the top.If you want a high quality product that you will be happy every time you grab for it then the Peugot Pepper Mill is for you.

Excellent quality. Superior grinding effectiveness and consistency. Looks great.
For years I have been very frustrated at the extremely poor quality of the typical brand-name pepper bottle+grinder that you buy at the grocery store. Invariably, after a while, the plastic gears would wear out and the grinder would not not work anymore.Besides the waste of spice (typically about 10% for each bottle) the frustration extended to the ineffectiveness of the grinder and the time required to season my food during preparation or before serving.I conducted some in depth research and determined that - on paper - the Peugeot Paris was the best quality/price manual peppermill on the market.I also conducted some detailed research on where to buy high-quality bulk spices and purchased multiple bags of the best peppers I could buy.I received the Peugeot, filled it with my new black pepper and gave it a try: Wow! What a difference! At Level III the pepper comes out at my ideal coarseness, at about 3x the amount that I would get from a generic grocery store mill (= less time twisting and twisting) and is extremely uniform in size. Most importantly (although this is primarily determined by the higher quality of the spice) the flavor is bolder, more potent and fragrant than any pepper spice ever purchased at the grocery store.Plus it looks FANTASTIC!Highly recommended.

The best pepper mill I’ve owned so far
Great proportions and quality/durability. Seamless to use. The many grind levels are also very handy. Im buying this again after using one from my roommate for 4 years.

It's worth the buy
Fantastic pepper grinder. Boutht it as a gift for my husband and we both love the option to have a finer grain or to have a more course grain and switching between the two is super simple. Great for cooking and having table side.

high quality
very well made excellent grind quality, I bought this for white pepper, I only wish the white and Ash were $37.99 also as I would like the ash for white pepper. I have Unicorn, OXO and electric Peugeot set and the adjustability of this grinder is the best.Hal2001

You get what you pay for
The last ceramic pepper grinder I purchased from Amazon was a major disappointment: no consistency to the grind and most of the cracked fragments ended-up inside the grinder head as opposed to exiting the unit. So I researched what Alton Brown would recommend, and that led me to Peugeot and a purchase of the 4" model. So far I could not be happier: the output is uniform and matches with the relative sizing scale; the beech-wood construction is solid and comfortable in the hand; and the action of the grind head is smooth and requires just enough effort. The price tag may be higher than a commodity glass-and-ceramic model you'll find on Amazon, but a Peugeot is well worth it.

Works well, classic looks, but...
As above, it looks for real, and definitely grinds pepper. The adjustment range is from subatomic to medium/coarse, and at least 80% of the range results in some grade of fine dust. This probably accounts for the reviews calling it "slow." Normal table pepper is about the second to last setting. The settings are continuous, so you have infinite control. The adjustment ring is not wood, but a pressboard material of low strength, which I discovered when it toppled from my countertop and creased/cracked. This doesn't seem to affect performance, nor is it getting worse, but it clearly won't endure much dropping. The combination of a heavy wood and metal construction, with the soft, exposed adjustment ring was not a great decision, and a little disappointing at the price.Another quibble is once you look inside, it's clear the mechanism is supported by a plastic frame. This was bought to replace a decades old mill with a crank mechanism, for which the crank handle finally fatigued until it broke, but it works perfectly still if one turns the nub. I might repair it, as it would serve multiple lifetimes. This mill simply will not, as the plastic will eventually wear and break.Overall, this is a good mill that will serve you well, but it probably won't be the last one you buy.

High quality pepper mill
Love this pepper mill. It is much higher quality than one I had previously purchased from Le Creuset.
