Personal Preference
Out of the box , Hook it Up & Weld .The only negative , is there is No Off & On switch ? I would've Perfered it With 1 . The Heat Range switch Works Fine , But seems to Me an Off & On switch would be Perfect

8 Years and Still Works Like New
It would have gotten a 5 because the welder is a good one. The description is what's wrong. The weld lead is 9' long, not 10'. The ground cable is 6' long, not 10'. The power cord is 13' long, not 15'. The description also said the welder came with a regulator and gas hose. There was no regulator, but there's a hose. What good is a hose without a regulator? The screws for the handle were missing as well. I didn't have the luxury of sending it back because I had to make a structural repair to my house that required welding ASAP! I needed a portable welder that was powerful enough to weld 3/16" steel.

Good welder... until..
So far, I like this better than the Lincoln 180. The ground cable is longer, the clamp is better. The gun itself seems very nice comparable to lincoln, and the power cord is quite a bit longer.A couple of things that threw me off:First- mine had a dent in the base, so the door doesnt latch closed. Not a huge deal, but disappointing.Second- the regulator measures cubic feet per hour instead of psi. I've gotten it sorted out now, but I'll probably swap the guages to psi.Update 1 year later-I still like the welder, but the "liner" is starting to sort of "push" out of the tip, which is causing the diffuser to un-thread, which is making it so the tip protrudes beyond the nozzle mid-bead.What is this causing you ask? Well let me tell you- aside from arcing weird and making my welds look bad, its fusing the tip and nozzle, which is melting the wire back into the tip. This isn't once in a while. Its every 2 or 3 minutes, on the conservative side. It has in the last 3 months or so since this started, become routine for me to go to start a bead, hear the wire vaporize, and just wait. .. sometimes 1 sec, sometimes 30secs... then you feel a faint twitch in the gun, and click- ¼ to ½" of wire pops out. Then you just weld as much as you can, knowing each time you stop, you get to play the waiting game.If your luck is really bad, you get a birds nest. That's what prompted me to update my review. I was fabbing brackets for my rock crawler, been fighting this thing for 90min, and now- bird nest.I'm at a loss. I'm admittedly no professional, but I've been welding for several years. Never seen this happen before. My cousin, who literally IS a pro welder, said try clipping the excess liner... so I did, and that worked... until it just popped out more.I'm 50/50 on replacing the whole gun assy, or buying a Miller.

I love my new welder Forney 318 190 but I have ...
I love my new welder Forney 318 190 but I have been welding for 25 years. had I been new to welding it would have been tough the owners manual is not to clear and I had to play with it some to figure it out. also Forney wire did not feed as it should however I got some Lincoln wire and it fed just fine. you can not plug this welder into a normal outlet in 115, it has to be a 20 amp outlet which not many people have, if your in a shop that's fine but to take it on the job creates a bit of a problem, will have to run back to panel box, at home I keep it plugged into 230 and like it very much. I give it a 4 1/2 stars because I think they should be more clear about the 20 amp plug and the manual should be clearer. the welder it self is great. would recommend it highly.
