That is what I use it for. I am at 1700+ ft elevation and pull 27 Hg on my gauge.

It comes with about 250ml of oil

Q: Will the pump pressurize to test for leaks in addition to pull vacuum?

you can check for a large leak with it, when you vacuum the refrigerator you will have about 14.5 on the monometer, turn off the pump and wait 2 minutes, if the pressure drops much below 14.5, then there is a hole in the system
