Solid 4-Star Router
All the bad reviews are primarily due to the firmware, which is like DD-WRT but takes a lot of the advanced features and makes them CLI configurable instead of through the web interface. If you can't figure out how to do it through the CLI you don't know enough to be mucking about the advanced features anyway. Otherwise a solid 4-star router

For the beginner or advanced user on a budget..
Cheapest AC router for your money. DD-WRT NXT is a fork of DD-WRT lead by the manufacturer of this router. The web interface is simple and elegant. Offering very little for the new user to accidentally screw up.All of the advanced features are still in place, but have been delegated to the command line over SSH.It took a frustrating amount of time to realize that I had to set a second password as a password for the root user to login by SSH. But other than that I have had zero problems with the router.Firmware updates have been surprisingly frequent (2 have already come out since recieving the router about a month ago).I haven't had any problems with range (1200 sq ft condo), and it has had rock-solid reliability. The intermediate user who wants to test the waters with advanced features, but may not be completely comfortable in a CLI may not find this router too appealing.Overall, this is a good router whether you are an inexperienced or advanced user, and are looking for a high quality router while on a budget.

Wait a few firmware versions in you want WDS
The hardware is nicely done, but the software needs work. I bought these expecting an improved version of dd-wrt and wanting to set up a Wireless Distribution System. I found that was not functional in the web interface, and have had no response to my help ticket. It may yet prove to be possible via command line, but the documentation has not been stellar.

Don't buy this for at least another year or two.
First time I've ever done this, but wow just wow! Router is advertised as shipping with DD-WRT and having VLAN capability. After scouring the config pages for this functionality it became clear that NXT means really basic. No help anywhere on DD-WRT site or NXT site, no firmware on Buffalo site and when I called Buffalo for support the tech couldn't even find my model number in their database at first. After about 20 minutes he informs me that all VLAN configuration must be done at a command line level because the GUI is still under development. Don't release a product until it's done.

Good connectivity, poor range
Great connectivity, have only had to reset once since purchasing, however the wireless range is pretty poor. My old Linksys router actually had stronger signal, but it gets the job done for my small place and the price is decent for what you get.

Although I easily set up openVPN on an individual computer setting it ...
The DD-WRT NXT user interface is difficult to work with and not well supported. I purchased this router because it had built in OpenVPV. Although I easily set up openVPN on an individual computer setting it up on this router would require an IT professional.I ended up sharing an individual computer's VPN connection with the router. So I am using 2 devices to due what I thought this device could due by itself.

great router, requires some tech knowledge
Decided to write a short comment after seeing so many negative comments that almost made me withdraw my order.Router delivered and configured:- works out of the box for most configurations- yes, GUI is too simple and you will need command-line instructions to configure it (but, hey, it's a Linux based router!)- most VPN providers don't yet have Wikis for DD-WRT NXT (please note the NXT part! As it's quite different from vanilla DD-WRT)- most powerful DD-WRT version I have installed on any of my routers, my VPN is really fast now!So, before buying, just make sure you know some networking, you know some basic Linux and your VPN providers supports DD-WRT NXT.Then this is a great buy!

I'm pretty disappointed in the DD-WRT NXT graphical interface
I'm pretty disappointed in the DD-WRT NXT graphical interface. Thankfully everything seems to be up in the command line. Other than that, it works right out of the box. Haven't done extensive testing, but for my needs it works well.

Buffalo Airstation with DD-WRT is a crippled version.
Sent it back. The version of DD-WRT loaded to it was crippled.
