Necessity for beer lovers traveling to Munich!
My husband and I just came back from Munich and found this book to be indispensable. It contained better instructions for navigating the city than most guidebooks and extremely helpful tips (such as explaining how there are tables reserved for regulars) and detailed transit instructions. For some establishments it contained a lot of really interesting info on the history. We weren't there long enough to hit every place or even every five-mug-rated place, but we got to about 15 and generally agreed wholeheartedly with the ratings (Michaelergarten and Hirschgarten being our absolute favorites)! The garden on the cover of the book was pretty hyped up, though, but we found it kind of boring.

A Must Buy If You're Going To Munich!
A great guide to the Munich beer scene. Worth the price just for the read. However, if you're lucky enough to go to Munich as we did, this book will pay for itself. We used 6 coupons out of the back of the book. No issues redeeming them.

Amazing
I got this book on Friday, and I can't put it down. It is an EXHAUSTIVE guide of the best places for beer in Munich. The only down side is there are so many great places, that you can't see them all in one trip. They are even cross-referenced with locations (Marianplatz, etc.). Each location has a map and tell what brands they serve. I wish I'd known about this book before my last trip.

Prost!
This book is packed with insightful information on Munich itself, it's history etc all held together with the common string being a love of good beer. Not only do you get some useful information, you get excellent insight of the do's and don'ts of their culture and then excellent details of each establishment. This book is a road map to a beer region you will thoroughly enjoy.

A must have for all beer lovers heading to Munich
Every beer lover taking a trip to Munich needs this book. It's as simple as that. The book covers everything from expectations and etiquette to beer styles and brands. It includes dozens of must-visit locations with historical information and directions via walking and public transportation. It even has a handy S-bahn map inside and free beer coupons for several locations. Having used them before, they DO work, too.

Interesting but limited guide to traditional Munich beer scene
This book is a nice introduction to the Munich beer hall scene. We found our "regular" travel guide completely unhelpful with regards to beer and this book helped fill in the gaps. Particularly the early section where the author discusses the culture and customs of beer gardens & beer halls. However there are some serious flaws with this book, I think:- the organization is terrible. Most of the beer halls are listed alphabetically, except for some which are inexplicably listed by their location, not name. WTF. Each venue is accompanied by a cryptic map which only shows 1 or 2 blocks around the area... I think the goal is to get you from the nearest subway station but if you are on foot/bike/tram/car you have no clue where it is. Also there is no map of the city with the beer halls laid out so there is no way to see what is close to you, what beer halls are close to each other, etc.- Each venue is rated on a scale of 1-5, but it's not clear to me how the author arrived at the ratings. We strongly disagreed with a few ratings and then ended up largely ignoring them.- This book was first written in 1991 and even though it has been updated as recently as 2015 seems to have completely missed the worldwide craft beer revolution. It's true that beer in Bavaria is relatively homogenized and dominated by 4 major companies but there are certainly gems to be found and this guide seems oblivious. The book is almost entirely focused on *venues*, not *beer*. There is a brief chapter at the beginning about "Beer" which is comically out of date, and some of the best local beer brands are completely absent from the book.

Indispensible!
I bought this guide a couple of years ago in anticipation of travelling to Munich once Covid had settled down, and was not disappointed when i visited a few weeks ago.The guide lists the author's top beer gardens and beer halls in the Bavarian capital, and gives a detailed description of each, the beers that they sell along with their addresses and websites. However it doesn't end there. Detailed directions on how to get to each venue via Munich's highly efficient public transport system are included with a helpful map from the tram, train or bus stop closest to the beer hall door. Also included are details of beer related trips out to breweries in the region, including Weihenstephaner, Ayinger and Andechs amongst others and a valuable informative guide to the public transport service in the city and its outlying areas. One small downside is that the guide is eight years old, with a new edition having being delayed by Covid.Nevertheless, if you are visiting Munich and intend having a few beers this will make sure you get the most out of your trip. Highly recommended and indispensible.

A really great book
This is a great book, i have been to Munich a number of times and thought i knew the locations of a lot of the beer halls but this book has so many that i did not know about, the reviews are well written and the maps are drawn by the person writing the review which makes it so easy to get to the places, i now have a list of beer halls to explore the next time i am in Munich and use the beer tokens in the back of the book to make my visit even better. The sellers were also amazing, my order did not make it to me for some reason and when i contacted them they shipped out a another copy from the US and it arrived within a couple of days, really great.

Fantastic guide to dozens of beer destinations in Munich
Having first purchased an earlier edition of The Beer Drinkers Guide to Munich, in 2000, and all the editions since, I have used it myself, given away copies, and bought others as gifts for anyone who enjoys Munich but is unsure as to what lies beyond the Hofbrauhaus. Excellent information about dozens of beer gardens, with transport directions (on foot or by underground or local rail) - and all with details on what tickets to buy - To give you an idea, I have purchased a ticket for 5 people for less than 30 Euros for all undergound, rail, bus and tram travel for 3 days, becasue this book gives you everything you need to plan an extended time in the greatest beer city in the world. Larry Hawthorne's extensive knowledge, painstaking (and no doubt) pleasurable research means he's done the hard graft - just buy the book and work your way around dozens of fantastic gardens, beer halls, bars and other emprioums with excellent rated Munich beers. Zum Wohl!

Brilliant
Essential reading for any beer trip to Munich. You don't go to Munich for the culture, you go for the beer and this book, a real labor of love, gets you to the best, and not just the obvious, it covers the big beer halls and gardens and smaller gems which are tucked away. The guide is clearly written, easy to follow with directions and maps. It is an essential tool for exploring Munichs beerhalls.

Truly an essential guide for drinking beer in Munich
I first used this guide many years ago with friends whilst visiting Oktoberfest and have continued ever since. Munich is full of 'pubs' but this enables you to make certain you see the best and those off the beaten track you would not find by wandering about. This updated version is even better with far clearer information about public travel for those pubs that are a bit further out.
