Thick rubber with a good non-slip tread. The edges do not curl up. I did not even have to tack it down to the wooden steop.

CAUTION: This is NOT as pictured. Please see attached image. I ordered this TWICE hoping to get the item in the advertised photo. It is pictured with small circles. However, it arrived both times with diagonal lines. Amazon said they would fix the advertised images, they have not. I wanted other consumers to be aware of the issue. If you are ok with the lines, I would say the item is fine. If it was what I needed, ordered and was expecting; I probably would have given it five stars.
