NEVER SHOULD A FILTER BE INSTALLED AFTER A WATER HEATER OF ANY KIND, COLD WATER ONLY. (Great question though) In a city water situation, the filter should be connected before entering any other devise, in a well situation it should be connected after pressure tank. The reason is that the well pump can generate more pressure than filter max psi. So, if the filter were to get filled it might exceed the max psi of the filter. you can put a pressure gauge before and after the filter and mark it where it would need to be replaced before excessive pressure was achieved. I have my filter before pressure tank because my incoming well water is super clean from the well and I am the only one, except for company that is using the water. I have never had a problem yet. Also, UV filters are great for killing all kinds of bacteria for additional safe water consumption. Another point for well users is i use hydrogen peroxide to shock my well, the old chlorine days are gone. Hydrogen peroxide is a great sanitizer. and it turns to water when it's done doing its thing. No more running a hose outside for hours to get rid of the chlorine and its smell, and great to maintain proper PH.
