This little chainsaw works pretty good. chain speed is slow compared to a gas, but it gets the job done. I did drill out the safety guard on the end as it was in the way and worthless to me. The bar is now about 6'' useable. Product description does say it has a Adjustable automatic chain lubrication. This is false, it is not adjustable.Also the Retractable metal hook? Sorry not there! If you have small branches and you do not want to fire up a gas chainsaw and you already have or want Makita 18 volt tools, this is a good buy.

This is for limbing small trees. Best pruner ever. Just keep the chain sharp. This always in the lawn cart at the ready.

Makita makes great products, especially the 18V cordless products, and this one is no exception. It has good power for its size, and it is easy to use and maintain.Make no mistake, this isn't a large Echo or Stihl-type chainsaw that will be cutting any large trees or load after load of firewood. This little unit isn't for large-scale production. This is a saw for performing dozens of smaller tasks that a chainsaw just simply performs better, easier, and quicker. Need to trim a few dead branches on a Saturday morning? Need to do a little yard work? Just check the oil, connect the battery, and saw. It is small, lightweight, and easy to control. It is also relatively safe. Let go of the trigger, and the blade stops almost instantly.This saw is great for trimming limbs and branches, cutting sprouts, and removing unwanted small brush. Since it is electric instead of gas, it is much quieter. This is a small saw that is quick and easy to use and is designed for doing almost all of the tasks the average homeowner would desire. If you are like me, and you already have some other Makita tools, a couple of batteries, charger, etc., this is a no-brainer. If not, get this saw anyway, then use it as an excuse to start collecting other Makita cordless tools.

I gave this to my wife because she was frustrated waiting for me to trim branches that were too big for her lopping shears. She was surprised and thrilled to get it this Christmas. After a brief training session on use and safety, she was off and trimming ,unfettered by cords or gas and noise. This little saw is a great machine. Seems as well made as I expect from Makita and is as quiet as you can imagine for a chainsaw. The fact that it takes the same 18v. 3Ah. batteries as I use in my other Makita tools was a plus because I didn't have to buy any new and expensive batteries. It doesn't seem to sling chain/bar oil like my bigger saws so she doesn't have to worry about her clothes.She says it feels very light and easy to use and she is not an especially strong woman. Oh, I take that back. She is ,of course, very strong, and uh, and beautiful and I love to watch her work. PERFECT!!!

I tried it out over the weekend taking down two citrus trees. I drained 3 1/2 3 amp hour batteries and filled two trailers. The oiler system worked great not too much and not too little oil. I checked the saw a few days after I used it and no excess oil leaked out. The trees were cut in a gated community early in the morning with very little noise and no complaints from neighbors.The saw is so light I did most of the cutting with one hand. The blade has a feature on it that uses a big knob to looses the bar and a spring puts the tension back on with no tools or effort. Note : The saw will not allow the 1.5 amp hour batteries, only takes the 3

When I decided to buy this cordless electric chain saw I had in mind some fast and light work in my farm. In the end I've used it for some other heavier work in confined spaces with great results that exceeded my expectations.

Great for small trimming jobs around the yard without need for gasoline or being tethered to a power cord. Decent battery life with a quick recharge as needed. Certainly not meant to compete or replace a full size chainsaw.
