I Am Free Thanks to This Book!
This is probably more of a testimonial than a review, but either way, I hope it helps you decide to buy this book. What I am about to say may very well sound "cliche", but my story is as real as it gets.Guided strictly by this book, I smoked my last cigarette in February of 2008 (a bit over 2 1/2 years as of this writing). And I can honestly say that I have been genuinely "free" of both the physical and psychological addictions to nicotine/cigarettes ever since. I can hardly express how empowering it is to be a non-smoker again.I'm 49 years old. I smoked 2+ packs a day for right about 30 years solid. I was hopelessly addicted and even told myself at some point in my life that I will never stop. I had even accepted the eventuality that if a bus doesn't run me over after all, I will die from smoking related complications.I came across a "how to" write-up online one day about how to stop smoking.... the easy way. That write-up (or rather testimonial of a person who stopped smoking) referred directly to Allen Carr's book. I told myself, "well, if it's truly 'easy', I'll do it. What have I got to lose?" I ordered the book from Amazon and decided to read it with an open mind and with no pressure upon myself to actually expect to stop smoking. In fact, I practically made a vow to myself to not even try to stop smoking unless it really was going to be easy.Ultimately, what the book did for me was to "walk me backwards" to the mental state of being a non-smoker before I had ever started. It cut through all the self-delusion from years of my own self-brainwashing designed to convince myself that I cannot stop smoking and that it is basically OK to keep smoking, etc. Once Allen Carr's logic and experience guided me back to being able to think like a non-smoker again (or pre-smoker actually) - all that remained was to stop the physical part and that is so much easier than you think. Especially after you have deprogrammed yourself psychologically with the help of this book. I know, I simply did it.Allen Carr (may he rest in peace), in his book, knows you as a smoker even better than you know yourself. He knows you no matter what type of smoker or nicotine addict you are. And because of this, you find yourself compelled to listen and give him the benefit of the doubt. He won't BS you. He won't hold your hand either. If you follow his guidance step by step, you will be able to stop and become free... easily. Two important ideals in all this (from the book) I feel compelled to mention here since they impacted me the most personally:1. Most smokers won't quit for fear of craving cigarettes (nicotine) for the rest of their lives. This book is one of the incredibly rare ways to stop smoking and be truly free!2. You are not "giving up" anything! You weren't born needing cigarettes. You are stopping a habit, not giving up a need. The easy way to stop smoking. "If it's truly easy, then I'll do it.", I once said to myself. I bought it, it was and I did. Thank you Allen Carr.UPDATE:Today is 10/24/11 - about a year and a month after I wrote this review. Thought I would just note that I am still totally nicotine free and loving it! SO let's see... by February 2012 it will be 4 years! The fact is (and my real comment here), I am so free from cigarettes and nicotine that I quit keeping actual track of the time since I stopped a long time ago.I've never even had to go back to the book to re-read any of it "for strength" or what have you. One of the instructions is to keep the book after you stop smoking - just in case. But this method worked so well for me, I doubt I will ever need to refer back to "the book". I wish any and all of you success in achieving the freedom Allen Carr's book can and does offer.UPDATE AGAIN:Today is 2/25/12 - Earlier this month was my 4 year anniversary of stopping smoking - and I am still gleefully free! In fact, I forget so much that I ever smoked, it takes certain things (like taking a peek at the various reviews I've written on Amazon) to remind me that I had ever smoked at all! 4 years is just awesome, there is no way in hell I would ever pick up another cigarette. I have still not even needed to refer to "the book" which I still keep, but probably wouldn't miss if I lost it now. I don't mean to seem self righteous, but smokers... you need to stop and this book will do it. Just read it slow and at your own pace and follow the author's lead step by step. I promise you, it really is easy - and so very, very worth it to be free again. I know you cannot stand being preached at about this, but if you are reading this - your mind must be at least somewhat open to the possibility. That is all takes folks. I never expected anything like this to ever happen to me in my life. Coming across this book was a miracle.UPDATE:Today is 10/17/16. I even lost track of exactly when I did stop... lol. Until seeing my review for this book again... now I know it is over 8 years! As far as I'm concerned, it's as though I never smoked at all. I still have my original copy of this book, and I still have not had to crack it open since my last cigarette. Love it! You will too!

It was EASY to quit - after 42 yrs of 2 packs a day!!
Update...December 10, 2014 -- it has now been more than 8 YEARS since I quit smoking after reading Alan Carr's book. I still don't miss it a bit and with the current price of cigarettes I am really glad I quit. But the greatest impact was on my health. The smokers cough went away within a couple weeks of quitting smoking. By the way, the guest on Jay Leno many years ago was Ashton Kucher. He quit smoking using this book and talked about how easy it was. And I agree. If there is a smoker among your family or friends, this book is the perfect Christmas gift!!Here is my original review from 2006....I heard a guest on Jay Leno mention this book. He said how easy it was to quit smoking and that the book didn't lecture you about the evils of smoking. In fact. he said that the author tells you to light up and smoke while you read the book. I don't even recall who Jay's guest was, but the book stuck in the back of my mind. This was probably back in September, 2006, and I ordered the book shortly afterward.I retired on October 1, 2006, and had already announced to the world that I was going to QUIT SMOKING after I retired. I had bought this book, but I didn't start reading it right away. I wasn't ready to quit. I LOVED to smoke. In fact, I didn't really want to quit. But friends were constantly asking me WHEN I was going to quit, since I was now retired. I felt backed into a corner, so I decided to pick November 16th, 2006, the day of the Great American Smokeout, as my day to quit smoking. I timed my reading of this book so that I would finish it late Wednesday night, November 15.What I didn't know at the time was that I had already become a nonsmoker, even before I got to the chapter titled "Your final cigarette" - I had already smoked my final cigarette and didn't realize it. Simply put, I had no more desire to smoke. I was a NONSMOKER! After smoking 2 packs a day for 42 years, I am once again a NONSMOKER!!It has now been over 3 1/2 weeks. It is like I never smoked!!! I don't even miss it. I didn't gain any weight (I gained about 20 lbs in 2 weeks on each previous attempt to quit and always used that as an excuse to go back to smoking). I have NOT been miserable at all, in fact I am actually happier because I am so thrilled to finally be a NONSMOKER! I have continued to do everything I did before, surrounded by smokers, and it doesn't bother me a bit (well, the smoke may irritate my eyes, etc., but it doesn't make me want to light up!).It's hard to explain how this book actually works. You have to read the book. I still can't believe how easy it was and I had NO weight gain, NO misery watching others smoke, NO craving a cigarette, NO withdrawal symptoms... in fact, I still have a couple CARTONS of cigarettes plus a few open packs that I've gathered up and put in a bag to give away. They are still right here for me if I wanted to smoke, but I have absolutely NO DESIRE to smoke. (Allen Carr does recommend getting rid of your cigarettes, but I haven't, and they have no appeal to me now.)Friends who quit "cold turkey" many years ago are congratulating me and telling me they know how hard it is to quit, and I'm telling them NO, it wasn't hard! In fact, it is one of the easiest things I've ever done. And I was a confirmed smoker. I quit going to certain restaurants when they eliminated smoking sections. I went outside to smoke at work even when it was 22 below zero. I had tried quitting in the past through the help of Lung Assoc. classes, hypnosis, acupuncture, nicotine gum, etc., and nothing lasted more than about 2 weeks and I was MISERABLE!!! But I really never wanted to quit smoking. And I didn't really think I would ever quit smoking. But I DID, while reading this book!!I have ordered 4 more copies of this book and I am giving them as Christmas gifts to some friends who truly need to stop smoking for health reasons. My friends can't believe that I don't mind being around other smokers and yet have no desire to smoke. I am still amazed! In fact, most of my friends are also amazed. They really didn't think I would ever quit smoking (nor did I). This book is the best investment I have ever made! And I am telling everyone I know about it where ever I go. I DID IT and I couldn't be happier! I am finally a NONSMOKER and it was EASY!! Thank you, Allen Carr!!!

BRILLIANT!
I got this book for Xmas and I hate "Self Help" books as I call them, but this isn't one of those books, at points I was laughing at my own stupidity for smoking. I went from smoking 20-30 cigerettes a day to none. This book does exactly what it says on the tin. Lets you quit smoking the easyway with no patches or gum or willpower. Yes, you need no willpower. You just need two eyes to read it and a small desire to kick the smoking habit. This man deserves every penny he earns.

painful, torturous--I cannot believe how completely different this approach ...
I've tried to quit smoking so many times and it's always been awful, painful, torturous--I cannot believe how completely different this approach is. I cried when I finished the last page because I knew I never had to smoke again! And I'm been unequivocally, joyously living as a non smoker since. Please, please, please, do yourself the best favor you can ever do and get this book. LIFE CHANGING.
