Great unit. Bulb may die in shipment.
I purchased this to replace an older lamp housing that was leaking at the cord gasket. The design is essentially the same as the ~10 tear old one with one small improvement - the main housing body now has a mounting flange that wraps around the outside of the lens gasket. This makes centering the lens and gasket a bit easier and more foolproof on re-assembly. A detail I noticed because I had to open mine up...The bulb in my lamp was dead. No broken glass or any rattles, just open-circuit dead. I should have tested with an ohmmeter before pulling the cord through the conduit and trimming out the wires, especially after reading other reviews that complained about broken glass bulbs inside the lamps they received. Filaments can be broken in shipment too. Oops.On the positive side of things, Amazon customer service and Pentair customer service are both responsive. They made things right.

It is blinding bright!
If you want a fully lit pool, this will do the trick! Unfortunately, it’s too bright for my preference. Do not look into the light it’s like looking into the sun.

Awesome underwater pool light
This pool light fit properly and works to light my in ground pool at night. I installed the bulb with the help of a friend and it took about one hour.

Classic Standard - improved design
This Pentair Amerlite is a classic standard in pools. The design is much improved over the previous old design from 10y ago with better seated gasket. I purchased LED color bulb and it was easy to change out the incandescent bulbs with the LED. The incandescent uses 300-500 watts versus 35 watts for the color LED. So far light has been installed about 2 months with no leaks. The toughest part of the install is pulling the cable through the conduit. Best way to do this is to strip away the black outer casing of the cable and tie the new cable wires (at least 2 of 3) to the old cable wires and duct tape that section, keeping the width of the tied/duct-taped section the same as the cable. Use plenty of conduit lubricant (applying this through the junction box and wait for gravity to take the lubricant down the tube). Then pull the old cord up from conduit which pulls new cord through conduit. One person inside the pool pushes the cord through the light box while the other person pulls at junction box - count and push/pull together. Pulling at junction box is harder work than pushing inside the pool. Leave a good 4-5 feet of slack in the new cord at the light so you can service the light/replace bulb at the pool edge in the future if/when bulb fails.

Rusted!
The “stainless steel” ring around the light is completely rusted after a month of being in the pool. The ring started out as a shiny silver color as shown in the product picture but as you can see from my photo it is discolored from rust. These lights are not cheap, I expected better quality.

Beautiful Pool Lights!
I never grew up with a pool, so I had no idea how much work they can be! Now, with good saving, good planning & good fortune, we now own a home with an in-ground pool! It's been 8 years and our old pool lights finally expired. More work to do. The pool stores were very expensive, so I decided to order the identical pool lights from Amazon - Thank Goodness you guys had them in stock - MUCH APPRECIATION!! They arrived in a very timely manner! They were packed carefully and both lights were brand new, which I wanted. I hired a certified pool technician to install them - a bit tricky getting the old ones out because of heavy caulking at the conduit openings. But, with lots of persistence and luck, we finally got them installed!! I am now enjoying my new pool lights during these lazy summer evenings. So beautiful....and of course, with a glass of red wine! Thanks, Amazon...from a very satisfied customer!!

Works great
Item is not new obviously. It appears to have been installed prior. The cable appears twisted badly but I was able to test it in the water before pulling the cable through. It is working fine however.

Best deal I could find on this item
My local pool supply stores wanted crazy money for this item. Shopped all over and on the internet and found this to be the best deal at the time of purchase. Arrived on time, and in perfect condition. Light bulb was not broken like so many other reviews that I read. I did replace the 500 watt bulb with a LED bulb, so if you plan to do the same, which I highly recommend, then don't forget to order a new gasket. FYI: Any LED flood light bulb that is wet rated will work just fine. I did much research and found no real difference between the ones they are calling a pool LED bulb and a regular flood light type LED bulb that you can get at your local home depot. Saved big bucks on the bulb and it looks great at night.
