If you can't finish it, save it for later.......
I actually wondered if we would need this tool since we rarely ever have left over wine but...........it's nice to be able to open 2 or 3 different bottles at a time to have your own tasting or to share with friends and then not worry if it will be stale by the next day if you don't finish it all. This product was easy to use. You insert the stopper, put the pump on top of it and pump it until you hear it click. To remove the stopper, you bend the little nipple on the stopper to the side and the vacuum is released. It doesn't get any easier than that.I have laid bottles on their side with the stoppers in place without any leakage at all. The stoppers are easy to clean too.If you've had to drink stale wine in the past for any reason you need this Vacu Vin pump. The stainless steel is a nice touch and the price is right. The Vacu Vin kit goes well with the Oster Electric Bottle Opener (which is a must if you enjoy a lot of wine or have problems with any other type of bottle opener).I was skeptical at first about the 2 pourer's (sp?) that came with this kit due to inexperience with anything like this. The design seemed flawed and when I opened the package, I assumed they were broken. That's certainly not the case. They deliberately have a split neck design so they can fit virtually any sized bottle opening. Function is something we have have all learned to compromise for form these days. These things function as if there were no other reason for their existence. I was amazed at the simplicity at which they work. Not a single drip occurs after you finish the pour. As a matter of fact, instead of dripping on your fancy table cloth or someones lap, it goes back into the bottle, so the function is two-fold. No mess, and no waste!I highly recommend this Vacu Vin Wine Saver Kit. If you only use it once to save a single bottle of expensive red it will pay for itself. And it will probably also work on soda bottles. (although we don't drink much soda in our house, except as mixers).Rob

Another Great Kitchen Gadget
AESTHETICSThis is so much more attractive than the plastic white version. This may not matter to some, but it looks beautiful against our gleaming granite countertops vs. a white piece of plasticEXTRASComes with 2 non-drip pouring spouts and 2 stoppersEASE OF USEIt definitely creates a vacuum inside the bottle. We let our seven year old try it out when it first arrived. We told him it's supposed to make a clicking sound when it's done. He put the stopper on the top of the wine bottle, pumped the handle 30 times (he counted - the bottle was a large bottle of wine used for cooking and only had about a cup of wine left in it) and when it clicked he stopped. He then released the stopper and we heard a whoosh of air rush inside. Our seven-year-old figured it out without further instruction.EFFECTIVENESSSimilar to any other air-tight or air-sealing product (Foodsaver vacuum sealing food bags come to mind), keeping air out of the food prevents or greatly reduces oxidation and keeps the flavor of the food or wine, or whatever liquid fresh.Like anything, if you leave food in the fridge, even if you vacu-seal it eventually it goes bad. Vacu-sealing just reduces air contact, thereby reducing the rate of break down = food stays fresher longer. Same with wine. Eventually it's going to vinegarize. This just slows down that process. We haven't left anything on the counter and expected it to remain fresh. So for those who want their wine to remain room temperature, not sure this is going to buy that much extra time.Plus who wants to re-cork an open bottle of wine? Yes they sell ones for that purpose but I'd rather spend my money on a stopper that slows down spoilage :)

Does the trick, but where to put it?
This little wine vacuum pump serves its intended purpose wonderfully, removing most of the air from a bottle of wine easily and effectively and delaying the infiltration of flavor-killing aerobic bacteria. In these hot summer months, it easily prolongs the usable life of a bottle of Cabernet stored at room temperature to a week or more after opening, instead of the 3-5 days that you'll get without using a pump between uses. Note, you can get even longer life out of the wine by storing it in a cooler environment after pumping. The box even has the word "Click" written on it in large letters so you know that when the pump makes a clicking sound, you're done.My only hesitation in recommending this kit is that it does not come with any means of storage of the five items in the set. The wonderful Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator is equally useful, but it comes with both a stand to rest the aerator on between pours as well as a cloth sack to store it in when not used for extended periods. This stainless steel wine saver "gift set" would benefit greatly from a small case or display stand on which the unit itself, the two pourers and the two stoppers could be stored when not in use.Overall, an excellent product but one that could contribute toward the dreaded KCS (kitchen clutter syndrome).

Still working great years later
I purchased this awhile back and I'm happy to say it still works great at preserving my wine.Sometimes you just want a glass or two and don't want to waste the rest, this keeps your wine fresh and drinkable with no stale or weird tastes like it would if you just used a cork.It comes with two rubber reusable corks and a pump.Keep pumping until you hear the clicks and you know it's sealed.
