My only question/concern is do these two barrels rub against each other or are there spacers so that they spin independently and without friction.

There is no spacer. They do not rub against each other because they rotate at the same speed.

Can I buy just the machine. I have 2 spare barrels

just buy the whole machine. The extra barrels may be an asset.

How much course grit do i use for 9 lbs of rocks?

In general you will use 2-3 tablespoons of 60/80 grit in each barrel ( 2 barrels for this model A-R2 ). That is the first stage for ~2 weeks. So for 9 lbs ( 3 barrels worth ) you will use 6-9 tablespoons. You'll want to do some research ( youtube is helpful ) on how to load the barrels as going just by weight won't be completely accurate.
