Ghosts as metaphors for battling personal demons
After reading some of the reviews, I was surprised no one mentioned that most of the episodes in season 1 are less about the scary ghosts, and more about how the ghosts are related to the living. This show is primarily a metaphor about wrestling personal demons. The ghosts are previous residents of a mental institution, and most( not all) met with an unjust death. We then are introduced to the living characters who are either hiding terrible secrets of bad life choices, or are struggling with making a life choice. The plot intertwines the fates of the living and the dead and Jed, played by Theo James, acts as the medium guide until the truest course plays out. Yes the show is formulaic and soap opera-ish. The characters are all twenty somethings trying to figure out how to be adults. The creepy uneasiness of the show supports the anxiety the characters are going through. It's still a ghost story show, it just runs a little deeper than thrills and chills. If you are predominantly into scares and gore, this probably isn't the show for you. If you like twenty something dramas and the supernatural, you'll love it.

Loved the show, hate the DVD's commercials!
Loved the show, even the non-answers of the season ending episode 6. Not an over-the-top horror gorefest as so many are these days, but enough spookiness to satisfy. The 'ghost of the week' premise is a bit weak, but the underlying plot into which these hauntings are tied is intriguing. There's been development of the characters over the six-episode arc, but the characters still are left with enough ambiguity that anything could be happening with them, and any one of them could be involved in the major over-arching plot. Hoping we get a second series. However, the DVDs have a major drawback -- you cannot skip over the commercials. You have to sit through 4 minutes before you can get to the show. While I appreciate BBCA's desire to sell other shows -- making me sit through commercials for a show in which I have zero interest EVERY TIME I want to watch this show, pretty much guarantees I will not be purchasing any more DVDs from them.Unless it's a season 2 of this show. And even then, I may have to think about it.

Great show, awful finale.
Had no problem with the purchase or anything, and the price was great; the show itself was pretty good, actorโs were great, but, I was disappointed with the end. For me it was too ambiguous. The stories seemed like they were building to a big reveal and then it just didnโt happen. The end fizzled for me and really didnโt fulfill the promises that the episodeโs made.

It is spooky!
I loved the show with Theo James. The first season. The they had Lacy Turner take his place. She is Stacy from Eastenders. She is a good actress but in this case I guess it didn't work. Too bad for her I think she did a good job Anyway you can watch Bedlam on Amazon prime.

well acted creep fest
There is not very well made horror on tv much. With the exception of Ryan Murphy American Horror Story, I find myself missing it. Came across Bedlam from the recommendation of a friend and am glad I followed up. Great young actors and the creepiest setting make for good tv. Sorry to see that it came and went without giving many answers to the first season. Curious, does anyone know what happened in season 2?

Good
It's like a British ghost wisperer but with a male lead. The only disappointment is that even though it has a season 2 it's not really a continuation of the story because no characters really come back even the leads. Just know that season one is all you get with the characters. I still live the show. I havent seen season 2 at all though, just beacuse its not out for usa dvd.

It started off so nicely...
Right, first off - I am not a native speaker, so I do apologize for any mistakes. This is your standard no-frills DVD set. Two discs (ep. 1-3 and ep. 4-6) in a single case. What really disappointed me was that there are absolutely no extras. Subtitles is all we get. Annoying. There's so much the creators could have put on the DVD - storyboards, how did they come up with the idea, what was it like for the actors, etc. Seems a bit lacklustre that they decided to go with subtitles only.Enough of that. The sound and picture quality are fairly good (I own a high-end entertain system, so I don't know exactly how much that contributes to the quality).I really enjoyed the premise of the series, it kept me on the edge of my seat more than once (in particular the creepy kid Alice). A spooky story set in a former lunatic asylum with many twists and turns, what's not to love?I liked the acting, especially by Theo James, who brought a lot of depth to the role of Jed. But Charlotte Salt as Kate? Not so much. I felt a bit sorry for her having to play such a coldhearted bitch, but she made the best of it.However, and this is a big however, I was endlessly annoyed (and still am) at the ending. I mean, what in the sweet name of [insert deity of your own choice] were they thinking? The last episode just opened up one can of worms after the other and it leaves you desperatley wanting to know WTF happens next. And the worst thing is that the last episode made me question the five previous ones as far as logic and context are concerned. One star deducted for poor DVD equipment, one star deducted for the ridiculous cliffhanger. All in all a great show, I do hope season 2 will carry on where this one left off.

Hmmmm
The concept was definitely better than the execution... It was okay, but could have been a lot better & I really did want it to be better... All the elements were there to be great but it was severely lacking... Can't quite put my finger on it, was like 'League of extraordinary Gentlemen' should have been epic in its greatness given the concept, but really wasn't...

What a shame
It could have been very good if it had had a story line - just a small group of people talking about nothing really in this converted insane asylum - that's the top and bottom of it, throw in the odd ghostly figure lurking in the background and you've given the title some meaning, how they came to make a second series is beyond me
