Japanese: A Linguistic Introduction
B**L
Great Book, works well for non-fluent and Native-English speakers.
What I liked:The book is both detailed and works very well, covering many aspects of Japanese Linguistics. The best part of it is that it describes in full ideas in conjugation and syntax which are foreign to English speakers. With a little extra further reading and Internet research on some of the ideas in this, it quite very easily helps develop a profound knowledge of Japanese. I wouldn't know how well it works for native speakers, but I would hesitate to call it 5-star for a native speaker, that being said, I doubt that it is bad, and if the market for Linguistic Texts on Japanese weren't so flooded, it would still be good.Negative:There are other Japanese Linguistics Textbooks better suited for native speakers.

Kindle version unreadable
This is just a review of the Kindle version. In preparing the Kindle version, they did not allow word-wrap. Many example Japanese sentences are truncated. In some cases, the whole point of the example sentence is to illustrate sentence-ending particles, which are completely truncated, making the example incomprehensible. For example, in describing the sentence-ending particle "ka" which changes an affirmative sentence into a question, they give two example sentences, one affirmative, and one a question. But in the question sentence, the 'ka" has been truncated, making the two example sentences completely identical.I examined these examples using the Kindle app for on both a 15"laptop and using a 30" monitor, and both had the same problem.Sloppy formatting, making the Kindle version useless.
