Vibrant sound from such a tiny speaker
Ordered the Dash 7 on the Oct 21 and recieved on Oct 23 2013 so right off the bat excellent service getting the product in my hands. With the Dash 7 in my hands you recognize that it has a bit of heft to it and I'm sure I could really do some damage if I really wanted to go about flinging my 200 dollar speaker at someone.I agree with another user in that there is no audio cues for when you turn the Dash 7 on and off or connect with bluetooth which is a bit annoying. But with that said as long as you read the instruction book and are looking for the changes in light colors from the led light you should have no problems pairing this device to anything with bluetooth. I did have one instance where my nokia lumia 920 had some trouble with pairing, but considering I haven't had any trouble with my laptop I'm going to tentatively say that it is my phone that was having problems that was fix with a reset of my phone. Now to the sound, I really can't say anything other than this has got to be the greatest sound I've heard from a pair of bluetooth speakers. When I say greatest, the best way to explain it is that the sound is crisp, and vibrant coming from the Dash 7. Now don't get me wrong, if you turn everything up too 100 percent on your phone/laptop/bluetooth device and the Dash 7 you are more than likely going to get a bit of distortion. At the same time though if you only turn the volume down a little bit you can get room filling sound if not house filling sound that I was getting with it at its loudest before distortion. Testing the range of the bluetooth I was able to go about 75 to 100 ft before I got hiccups and pauses in the music I was playing. This would probably be affected by what kind of bluetooth your device has.Battery power was an impressive 11 hours on bluetooth, which in itself is amazing considering I had to start charging my phone before I had to charge the speakers. Keep in mind that this will be affected by how high you have the volume. Charge time has been relatively fast in that after a whole day of use it only takes about an hr to hr and a half to charge all the way up.The Dash 7 is magnetically attached to the speaker cover which is quite nice for traveling. When it comes to using it as a mini stand I find that if you slide the magnetic part halfway down the speaker when you are propping it up helps it a bit with the bass. At the same time, I think that the speaker does really well by itself on a table which gives more sound instead of propping up. So most of the time I have it lying flat on a table off of the cover. The speaker phone worked like a charm, I was able to talk and listen to people on the other end quite well. They said that they couldn't tell I was on a speakerphone, even when I was a good 15-20 ft away from the speaker. Now if you just want room filling sound go get yourself something cheaper and bigger to go about your audio business. Now if you want something that will do well in a room or outside with a small gathering or even in your various travels and are a bit of an audio buff then the 200 dollars are well worth it for this phenomenal speaker.Pros:Feels and looks well made with a bit of heftLoud, crisp and vibrant soundAwesome speakerphoneExcellent Battery lifeGreat Bluetooth range and easy pairingFast RechargeCons:Have to adjust sound when you get to higher volumes to avoid distortion of sound or bassPrice (sound wise though you get what you paid for)No audio cues for turn on/off or bluetooth connection (Soundmatters please please fix this)Cover really doesn't work as a stand without some fiddlingThe only reason this speaker doesn't get five stars is because there are no sound cues for on/off and bluetooth connection. If they fix this I would easily give the Dash 7 five stars.

It distorted easily and when it did
This is a review for both the foxL DASH7 and the foxLO. (The four stars is only for the foxL DASH7. The foxLO on its own would only be two stars.)I had read all kinds of raving reviews for the foxL, calling it some kind of miracle of audio engineering. Well, yes and no.For its diminutive size, it does reproduce very impressive sound quality, and being a truly pocketable product, it's also extremely convenient. But, laws of physics is what it is, the foxL will not reproduce satisfying low-bass, nor will it play loud enough to fill even a medium sized room. This speaker was designed to play right in front of you, a few feet away, and to ask it to perform beyond that, is perhaps unreasonable.I also tested the foxLO portable subwoofer too, which is a kind of an awkward product, since it is not wireless and must have the power plugged in. I might have been okay with that if the subwoofer was really impressive, but it wasn't. It distorted easily and when it did, the distortion was a nasty and harsh noise that's unlike any other audio distortion I've ever heard (this is because the foxLO's driver is a unique design that's nothing like traditional speaker drivers). With the foxL and foxLO together, the sound is noticeably fuller, but it still wasn't able to match some of the models I already mentioned. For the extra inconvenience and price, the whole thing just wasn't worth it.To give you an idea of how loud the foxL+foxLO combo can play, here's a little test I did with a sound pressure meter:If I had the speakers right in front of me within arm's length, I could get up to around 75 dB average and up to 82 dB peak.If I got up and started walking around in the room, the volume drops to around 60 dB, which is nowhere near satisfying level -- which in my opinion, should be at least 80 dB (I'm very cautious with listening levels. I never go above the 85~90 dB threshold when listening to music, watching movies, playing video games, etc. Very often I listen to music at around 70~80 dB when I don't feel like blasting the music).I tested a bunch of other bluetooth speakers, and in the end, I settled on the Klipsch KMC 1.
