Love this!
Perfect for infant and toddlers. As a retired early educator, this is a perfect way to introduce language and communication skills.

Amazing book and very detailed
The book does an amazing job at helping how/when to teach what signs and how to communicate them naturally rather than train like a dog you could say.

A Great Resource!
I purchased this book for our daughter to help our granddaughter out prior to her ability to talk. I cannot tell you how much signing lessened our granddaughter's frustration. She has been able to "talk" to us by signing and get her point across ... I will admit our granddaughter is not known for a lot of patience so this book has helped ALL of us out! Where my daughter knew the basic signing from attempting to teach her son (almost 8 years prior) some of the basics ... our granddaughter's lack of patience and our son-in-law's and daughter's consistency in signing was a tremendous help in lessening the frustration that our granddaughter would have felt. This book is so easy to follow it was a tremendous help on the signs that were not remembered by our daughter. I have to admit I was a bit concerned as I had read a few reviews in other places where signing slowed down the speaking of words ... in our granddaughter's case that was definitely NOT SO ... as she learned both at a very young age. And now that our granddaughter is speaking, as well as, signing we are so very impressed with how fast she is learning to do both at such a very young age and how fast her vocabulary is increasing! By the way this is NOT our very first grandchild that we would be impressed with ... as we are very proud grandparents of 5 grandchildren with the 6th one due any day now!

Every new parent should give baby signing a try.
I think it’s a great book.It starts by addressing the benefits, concerns and questions parents may have about signing, and then goes straight into explaining the technique: its methods, pitfalls, best practices and the reasoning behind all of those.I was really surprised by how powerful signing with children can be. I learned that for a very long time (from 1 to 2 years) our kids can understand a lot that goes around them, but aren’t able to communicate it effectively. With books such as this, they now have a chance.Chapters are succinct and easy to read, making the overall reading experience fun and effortless. The author draws on a lot of examples from her own interactions with her children, making them both illustrative and relatable.I’m testing it with my son right now and haven’t got any signing from him at the time I’m writing this. Still, now that I’ve read the book I understand that it’s a slow process that requires a lot of patience. Kids are expected to sign back at some point after they’re 6 months old, but usually this happens a long time after that. Since my son is just turning 6 months old, there’s a good chance I’ll still have to wait at least a couple of months before he signs back anything that I can understand. This book is for any parent who has a kid that isn’t talking just yet and that wants to communicate better with him or her. As the book states, after kids start talking it’s really hard to teach them signing, since they won’t see the purpose of it anymore. Therefore, teaching your kids to sign only makes sense before this point.Signing really has a lot of advantages. It enables you to: - communicate better with your kids - better understand their needs - see the world through their eyes - help them develop their language skills fasterThere are so many benefits that I believe every new parent should give it a try.Check my full review here: https://medium.com/books-read-by-andres/book-review-baby-sign-language-basics-aa0fe868de8c

Loving this book so far!
I've had it for a few days and my husband and I are really enjoying learning a little ASL and teaching our 5 month old daughter. The signs are easy and actual ASL signs and it doesn't really take a whole lot of effort to learn. In my opinion, it doesn't take a lot of effort to incorporate the signs into your day to day life either. At the start, you only need to learn a few signs to get through the day. "Sleep", "Milk", Play", "Water", "Mommy", "Daddy"... We quickly learned these and found ourselves looking in the book (and using online ASL resources) to learn more signs. As you learn more, you find yourself using them without knowing it. For instance when I change my daughter's diaper, I do the sign for "Change" without even thinking about it now. And I've only been using the signs for a few days! We're excited for her to start signing back to us in several months but for now she is very attentive to what we're showing her. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to slowly learn sign language to teach their baby. And for the price? You can't beat it!

A great book for beginning
Here is a simple and honest review. The actual reading portion of the book only takes about an hour and a half (of course this varies with interest levels and other various dependencies) the point is, the author puts together a simple introduction to signing with your baby. She builds rapport by sharing stories of her LO. The important chapters, to me, were 8 and 9. The rest is a means of giving you joy that one day you too can connect with your baby, and just imagining that connection at such an early age is amazing. There are tons of easy to perform signs with excellent descriptions. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking into signing with their LO's

Author may have written the book to boast!?
A bit discouraging right out of the gate. Read that the authors 8 MONTH OLD can sign Elephant. I'm just using the everyday signs throughout the day and my 1 yr old still hasn't caught on. Haven't picked up the book again for fear I'll feel like a failure. Com'mon - your target audience are sleepless struggling, often times insecure parents of newborns, infants & toddlers - bragging is uncouth!

Super recomendado

All you need to know about baby signing in just one book - excellent!
A really useful detailed guide for baby signing. The author has managed to answer all the questions you may have and also gives loads of great ideas for signing with your baby and also how to do it better - getting babies attention, what babies first attempts at signing will look like (so you don't miss it!) and more. She also has another book which I have liked a lot called 'sign, sing and play' which has loads of ideas for how to incorporate signing with baby at home and out and about. And she also has a youtube channel with 12 videos where she explains signing and demonstrates the signs for different scenarios. There is a dictionary at the back of 300 signs so if you need a sign and don't know it you can quickly refer to the dictionary and find the one you need.Definitely one of the most comprehensive signing books out there!
