Essential reading for mental health clinicians / therapists
This is an important book which I feel everyone working in medicine and mental health should read. There is alot of information but it is a comparatively easy and surprisingly, for the most part given its subject matter, fun to read. As a mental health social worker / clinical supervisor I had quite alot of 'aha' moments. There is an excellent index, glossary and an impressive list of references included. It also gives practical suggestions that can help practitioners and patients get on with putting things in place that may assist mental health recovery to venture in pathways that may not have previously been considered. It also shines a light on current and future research and likely developments in this field. I do think there will be a psychobiotic revolution and this appears to be a critical and timely book that is much needed.

What we've all been waiting for
This book is a smooth delivery of the new research on gut biome and mood. The information is digestible and as someone who has a bit of anatomy background I am even more excited for the health revolution ahead. Highly recommend to any health nut or anyone who has chronic depression. This is it!!!

Has helped my mental health
Thus book is a must read for anyone, especially if you have any "mental health " or mood issues. I purchased a probiotic blend that contained many of the psycobiotics suggested. They help tremendously cut down anxiety/ depression ect. I do not take pharmaceuticals. Please read this book.

Informative and Well Written
So much good information and easy to read. All the scientific language is clearly explained. After reading this book you will be able to make informed decisions about your diet and probiotic supplements.

Great information!
I feel much better informed on this subject now, having recently started a probiotic regimen. I found this book entertaining to read (for a subject that I suppose could be dry and boring.) I am fascinated that this complex system resides in the gut and is responsible for our health, moods, thoughts and more! I wish there had been more re: the Vagus nerve connection and also the benefits of intermittent fasting in conjunction with proper foods to heal and support the gut, but I found plenty here to be inspired!

Absolutely fascinating and easy to read for non-scientific people
I have to admit, i've just started this book. I haven't read such an interesting book in at least 10 years. This is fascinating. I don't like technical, scientific books and this book is just right for the lay reader. And it's witty! I get excited when i learn brand new information, especially about health. There's a whole, alien world residing in our gut. Even though it's been researched for years, it's still not widely known (especially by doctors)....... I plan to edit my review after i start taking some powerful probiotics today and see what happens. With my crummy diet i'm sure i will notice some big changes. Meanwhile i can't wait to get back to reading this book, that's how good it is.

Very interesting and informative
This book was amazing and discussed the microbiome in such a way Iβve never heard discussed. I loved that it listed specific probiotics and their roles. I have already recommended this book a couple of different times.

Masses of mind blowing information.
I am on a quest to improve my health in general and my gut health in particular, this book was recommended to me by a health professional. I am elderly with a non scientific background, so find it challenging to assimilate all the facts, but it is very well set out, easy to read, and quite amusing in places. It will be one of my go to references for some time to come I think.

Fantastic, easy-to-read update on current research on how the gut affect the brain.
I've read a medical book and I never imaging that I'd read one cover-to-cover as a "page-turner." I was diagnosed with depression/anxiety 10yrs ago and IBS soon after so this book was written for me and gave me amazing insights for the first time despite frequent treatments by medical staff including gastropscopies and a colonoscopy. The evidence presented chimes so directly with my experience that it may be transformational. For example, I discovered that one of my medications for gut inflamation, Omeprazole, is shown by recent research to have negative impact for those, like me, with depression/anxiety. I've been taking it for a decade but no more. The book gives evidence on the value of named probiotic brands and, more importantly, how to repair your gut and enhance brain function through healthy eating.I cannot recommend the book highly enough. It is co-authoured by an experienced US health writer and two Irish leaders in research, all globally respected as leaders in their field.

It's good to see this topic being taken seriously and explored ...
A very informative read. It's good to see this topic being taken seriously and explored somewhere close to main stream medicine. If only our current medical practitioners were educated about this - sadly, my experience has been that they are very sadly lacking in even the most basic knowledge of the kind of information that is so well explored in this book and seem reluctant to venture into this area at all. It's high time that they moved out of their comfort zone and started treating the person - not the isolated symptoms. My only small criticism is that the book does not go deep enough and I'd look forward to another volume that goes even further.

The biggest medical breakthrough since penicillin
This research described in this book will cause a long overdue paradigm shift in medicine and the pharmaceutical industry. It is a well written and up to date synthesis of research on the impact of the trillions of microbes which have coexisted in our gut for millennia, forming an integral part of our digestive and immune systems, and when things go wrong, a raft of physical and psychological conditions from Colitis to major depressive disorders.Fortunately, research is already advanced enough for the authors to give sound advice on precautionary dietary measures to minimise risk and impact of many modern day ailments, mostly arising from junk diets and over use of broad spectrum antibiotics.

Why no audio book? So good I bought it twice, and will probably buy it a few more times yet
Brilliant bookInformation and concepts need to be sown far and wide.Soil health, biodiversity, and natural mycelium ecology has to be the first step, the foundation on which everything else is built, fascinating stuff. This is essential scienceHow can we help?Sheldrake has proposed a 1% fund. where just one percent of taxpayers spending on science is accountable to the actual tax payers, especially if it reduces tax payers spending on illnessMuch, much, much more work and research needs to be done, on this, and on all the other mental and other health issues that are related to gut health, that are only briefly touched upon hereBut this is the boost that we needed. Massive thank you to the authors, and keep up the good work!!Many of the peole who badly need this information for health issues will benefit more from audio format rather than written text. They will have infernal brainfog making it hard to concentrate and readAMAZON! Please please get the audiobook done! I'll do it myself for free, if I can make the energy, if you are stuck ;)Can someone with more energy than me please record a reading of this book so I can give it to friends who need to hear this info, please?
