AMAZING. Better than any noise canceling mic
I had read a lot of reviews on the product on Amazon.Com website before buying. Some reviews pointed out that the product is not actually a noise canceling mic, but a directional mic. This is true, it does not cancel noise, but relies on directional placement to pick up sound and ignores the rest. And the end result? AMAZING. Better than any noise canceling mic, provided you know how to use it.Before I share what it does well, I should point out what it doesn't do well. It will not improve sound quality from a distance. It is not a shotgun mic or anything. Mounted on a camera, it is probably as good as a camera mic.But where it starts scoring is when you take it close to the source. I have recorded a large number of discussions, interviews, or instructional videos in very noisy environments. I have interviewed people in noisy 'hip' restaurants with loud music in the background, in noisy bars, on construction sites (which is probably as noisy as it can get). You pin the mic on the speaker's collar (no need to make it intrusive), and the results are flawless. If the direction is properly chosen, at times it picks up ZERO ambient noise. Since there is no filtering mechanism driven by some software, you don't get lags, cuts and jerky sound. Just natural, good sound from the source that you want to pick up.I was a bit sceptical about the price, it is a cheap product afterall by mic standards. Indian price is around 1700, whereas the US site sells it for $18 or something. At the end of it, I am very pleasantly surprised. It does the job very well, provided you use it for the job it is built for. Great value for money! If you are recording conversations, discussions, interviews in noisy environment, it does the job very well. If your need is a camera mounted mic or something placed at a distance, then this is not the product for you.
