Update 12/2/2019:After researching on some online forums, I decided to give these generic cartridges another shot. The advice was to shake them prior to installation. I shook them up a bit, reinserted and after a few tries, it worked. The printer still won't recognize the cartridge, but at least I can print. I'm increasing the rating from 1 star - 3 stars.Previous review 10/23/19:I had high hopes for this cartridge based on the excellent reviews. Unfortunately it did not work for my printer. The printer showed a ? no matter what I did.

We have one of the printers listed on this product as being compatible. None of the ink is registering at all and it was a complete waste of money. Don't buy this brand for a brother printer!

Pro: the cartridges work with my printer, Brother MFC-J497DWCons:1. Poor quality ink color. You will NOT get the original vivid ink color provided by OEM Brother ink cartridges.2. Printer is not able to report remaining ink showing only a question mark rather than a balance.Since I'm usually not printing much of import, it's not a big deal. However, there are occasions when I'd really like the colors to be clear, clean and vivid.

I have a Brother MFC-J497DW printer all in one. Replacing ink cartridges with Brother cartridges was getting expensive. I decided to try these. I’ve read the reviews that state the cartridges are only half full. Now....was it because I open then right after they arrived after being in a hot truck? Not sure. BUT when removing the tape to place cartridge in, I had a handful of ink in my hands!!!Thank goodness the trash can was underneath!!The other thing they were very difficult to insert. Really had to jimmy them around for awhile. But with perseverance & a few choice words, they finally went in. Sooo..... now for the true test! The print quality is great!! No smears, skips or faded spots!! Clear & clean!! Unlike my hands!!So fix it so the ink doesn’t explode out & design the casing to fit better and it’s perfect!!

it's been about a month since buying this. as you can tell from the pic, ink hasn't gone down that much. I definitely put this to use as I work from home. was hesitant on buying this based off of reviews but it works great! has an error sign over the black ink cartridge but print quality is just like the manufacturer cartridge. definitely will be saving me money going forward. will be ordering the color cartridge soon.

Thought these would be ok for my new Brother MFC-J497DW printer. Needed black cartridge first, seemed ok even with the ? mark for ink level. Worth the small glitch. Now I cannot get my ink jets to clean to print any black, and used all of the colors doing the cleaning. All cartridges now from this set are installed all showing ? marks. NO colors are printing and I've used 1/3 every cartridge clean the ink jets.

The cartridges are a little tougher to install into the printer but seem to work fine once installed and are significantly cheaper than the Brother brand. That being said, with regard to the printer itself, I feel like it not only goes through a lot more ink than it should but also have noticed that even though I only print in black and white, I've had to change all of the colored cartridges - seems shady. So I'm happy not to keep paying for Brother brand cartridges - definitely worth trying! I'm on my second order of them.

Purchased these cartridges in October and just got around to using them. None register or distribute ink to the printer. Too late to send back and I will never ever trust this again. Not a nice thing to do to people to sell them junk. We pay for these items and they're not free.
