Fabulous book - a must for all levels of yoga practitioner!
This book has a wealth of information for any practitioner of yoga, from beginner to advanced. The content is concise and practical, and the poses are sequenced in a way that allows for a gradual and safe progression in the practice. There are also dozens of practice sequences given for both improvement and how to treat common ailments through yoga. The introduction is especially valuable, as it offers a no fluff in-depth commentary on the philosophical thought behind the asana practice. I pick it up again and again and am still referring to it after nearly 15 years of owning it. My copy is dog eared and loved, and was well worth every penny. An earlier reviewer mentioned that the photos and layout were not user friendly, and only gave the book two stars, which is a shame. This book was first printed in the mid 1960's - over 40 years ago! It was the first yoga book of it's kind to ever be printed, and it's content is timeless and as relevant today as ever. Mr. Iyengar even had to struggle with his then publisher to be allowed to include so many photos, as it was so expensive in those days to print such a book. I say hats off to the man who brought yoga to the west long before it was ready. He's a pioneer and a virtuoso of his craft, and his marvelous work should never be over overlooked just because it doesn't come in some glossy package fit for the masses.

Thank you BKS Iyengar!
Purchased this book in 1986, when I started my yoga practice. I feel so fortunate to have begun with the real thing!!! Recently checked out available popular YouTube videos and was so surprised to see that the poses are rarely held longer than 5 seconds, they're often missing important features and/or altered significantly, and breathing instruction is minimal if at all.I recommend this book to all who still have the patience to read these very well-delivered instructions. If not though, I'd recommend an online visit to the Iyengar Institute of San Francisco, where classes are available. Whatever the case, the book is a very valuable reference for form, plus offers so much towards a more comprehensive understanding of the yoga tradition.

every line is important
This is a required reading for ytt, but it is so informative. Nothing extra- every word is important. Lots of great photos and explanations. About to reread.

Very helpful book.
B K S Iyengar is very well know Yoga Guru. This book is very detailed. It explains each 'asanas' in great details. Introduction is long and really good. The copy takes very long to arrive and print is not very good. But it is ok and readable. It is a large book.

Great presentation for a fabulous book!
This is my fourth copy of light on yoga by BKS Iyengar. The way this book is laid out is much preferable to the older and first few editions that were published. Trust me, just buy it, you’ll be glad you did.

Great book with great pictures!
I am new to Yoga and "Light on Yoga" is just what I needed. Not only does Iyengar do a wonderful job of explaining Yoga for beginners, he also presents a nice and easy plan to get started and it lasts for 300 weeks! This is such a great book for those that have been to Yoga classes before and are interested in furthering their practice outside of a group class.
